you see a dog in a parked car, no matter which state or what that state’s laws provide for:

1. Make every reasonable effort possible to locate the dog’s owner.

2. Call local police and animal control and report the incident.

3. Remain with the dog until help arrives.

4. If the dog is in imminent danger and help has not yet arrived, you’ll have to use your own judgement, considering the possible legal ramifications of breaking and entering to save the dog.

Looking up laws in Illinois and Iowa I couldn't believe Iowa doesn't actually have a specific law to leaving dogs in hot cats. Although there may not be a specific law in Iowa as there is in Illinois the owner would most likely be charged with animal cruelty. Some states make you pay for the damage to a window if you attempted to save a dog from a hot car.

We need to have a pet awareness mission team. How many times do we have to see pets in cars with windows rolled up and no air running? What's it going to take to make people ware of the danger? Why wouldn't a pet owner make sure their dog has water if they are left in this heat. If anyone interested in community awareness I would appreciate the help. I can't do what I want to do alone. Nothing wrong with passing out flyers to educate people .

Iowa has the largest next to Missouri for puppy mill violations. In Iowa one breeder kept dogs in 109 heat. Inspectors assessed dogs and puppies having heat strokes. This facility has been cited many times.

Another breeder runs a scam at her puppy mill. Selling puppies as rescues to pet stores. In Fact her puppy mill has the word rescued in its name. She received donations for what people thought was a rescue instead it's a puppy mill with multiple violations during every inspection. Wouldn't you want to know where your new puppy is coming from. The list is much broader and lengthy. We all as pet lovers wish we could stop the suffering.
