I'm here with Bones for a very cold Sunday Snoots! Everyone is tucked in their respective areas and are doing well! The feathered kids are in their warm heated coop, the sheep and piggies are tucked in their insulated barn with plenty of straw, along with your favorite kitty friends!

What a beautiful day for everyone stretch their legs!

We are grateful every single day we get to care for our beloved feathered family, and we take advantage of any enrichment we can safely provide for them, like going outside on a nice day into their covered runs. You all helped make this happen with your donations, post shares, and words of encouragement! We are so appreciative of every single one of you, and know Rex, Raisin, Salt, April, Nutmeg, Winter, and Lo feel the same ❤️

Avian Flu has been a concern for a couple of years, and the past several months have shown cases mutating to affect other species. Billions of domestic birds have been killed by government order in the most horrible ways you couldn't imagine. Our area is relatively safe, not being in any migration flyways and not having bodies of water near us, but we still take precautions and do what we feel is best for our crews wellbeing.

We're not quite back for our regular posting if all of your favorite residents at Freedom Run, but wanted to share a warm update on Mellow and her babies, Coco and Sugar.
Last Thursday we took all three lovely sheep to our vet for a suspected upper respiratory infection. The vet also suggested they might have botfly, which is a parasite that often shows up in the winter months. All three were treated for both and we headed home! Today they're doing so well!! Their noses were so inflamed last week and they were clearly hurting, but the medication took effect very quickly and they aren't showing symptoms of either UPI or parasites. No one else is or has shown symptoms of either, but we're monitoring carefully as the cold continues.
Having eyes on them while I drove to the vet was amazing!

Sunday Snooties has been temporarily interrupted by Sunday Booties! Dottie (left) is over a year older than Hope (right) but doesnt let it show. Dottie is a Duroc mix and Hope is a Yorkshire. Both breeds are typically exploited for their flesh in the ag industry, and we're so lucky to be able to care for them for their entire natural lives and be able to protect them.

The more and more we use our trailer, the more I've been thinking about needing a trailer camera! Most of our sheep and pigs have never been inside a trailer for transport, so having eyes on them during travel gives us peace of mind and also allows us to act quickly if we see any issues happening. Our closest vet is 45mins away for basic treatment, but for anything requiring more advanced care we need to travel 2 hours to our nearest university vet.

What an amazing Christmas gift! We often call everyone at the sanctuary our kids because, well, they are! We love them unconditionally and would sacrifice everything for them. My lovely mother-in-law loves them as her grandbabies and wanted to help with their care!

Today I picked up a new gate, trough, mineral blocks🐑, treats🐖, and enrichment toys🐓

I'm so excited to install the new gate and put out the new trough this weekend! The sheepies are already enjoying their mineral block, and our feathered kids will be receiving their enrichment toys soon.

On this very cold day, we were thinking back on summer time when Raisin roamed through the weeds, not a care in the world! We love our smart, inquisitive girl so much and we're so glad she's still doing well with her flock. I don't think I have a picture, but she likes to sit beneath Rex as he stands and watches guard over his best girl. ❤️

Thanks to our trailer, I was able to pick up 30 bales of straw today! With the wind chill it's about 3 degrees right now and getting colder quickly.
The piggies are super happy with how much straw they have, the sheepies have extra hay, I installed a cold barrier for the chickens glass door (they have their heater too), and Summer is inside enjoying his winter home.
Everyone has full bellies and cozy sleeping arrangements and we feel more prepared than we ever have.
We hope everyone is staying safe and warm, we know so many that struggle during these times when it gets so cold and our hearts are with them.

It was a gorgeous afternoon! Our feathered family was outside on their lovely covered run, the sheepies were munching on their hay in the sunshine, and the piggies were doing what the piggies do best: sleeping in their beds inside!

Binx wasn't putting any weight in his front leg and we suspected a break because of how he was acting. Thankfully we believe he just got into a tussel with a neighboring barn cat and he'll be fine! Antibiotics and pain meds for this boy.

The beginning of 2024 was filled with heartache, depression, and anger. The end of 2024 was filled with determination, appreciation, and tranquility. Thank you all for your continued support. Your love for every heartbeat at Freedom Run echoes into the new year and drives me to keep doing what we're doing!

I started to sit down and write about our year in 2024 to share with you all, but I just haven't been able to write it all out quite yet but I'll get it out there tomorrow! All of our babes are tucked in with their radio playing classical music a little louder than normal to tune out the fireworks that are going off already, and the humans are bringing in the new year by cuddling up with the dogs and cats in our pj's. We appreciate you all and hope you have a safe night!
