Teddy and Bella do everything together, including acing puppy visits with Dr. Emily Leahey and the Animalia crew. A little sibling support goes a long way in gaining confidence and trust!

These two beauties finished their 4th and final boosters, so we’ll see them in one year for their annual comprehensive wellness exam. It’s always exciting to see our patients grow and come into their own! We can’t wait to see those personalities blossom over the next 12 months of exploring the world and soaking in new adventures and lessons along the way.

As a reminder, Dr. Emily Leahey and our Urgent Care team will be available this Saturday, 8am-6pm! Urgent Care is scheduled on a call-ahead appointment basis, so we ask that you contact our client service team at 615-595-7100 to ensure our medical team can best serve you and your pet on arrival. Appointments can also be scheduled online from our website at www.animaliawellness.com.

Our goal is to provide extended hours and exceptional care for sick patients outside of our normal weekday schedule, with onsite diagnostic equipment to perform bloodwork, x-rays, and an in-house pharmacy allowing timely results and treatment. We welcome those new to Animalia and will work with your primary care veterinarian to ensure all medical notes and treatment plans are thoroughly communicated, encouraging follow up with your pet’s physician. Please give our team a call this Saturday, 8am-6pm, for your Urgent Care needs!

From in-depth sessions on the latest medical advancements, to hands-on workshops honing practical skills, the Veterinary Meeting & Expo in Orlando has empowered veterinary professionals to build on existing knowledge and ignite their passion for animal care!

Dr. Haley Fitzsimmons focused on continuing education courses around dentistry, endoscopy, nutrition, osteoarthritis management, dermatology, and emerging new medications and treatments for various disease processes. We can’t wait to hear all about it when she returns this week!

It’s almost time for Pet Dental Health Month, so let’s talk about dental disease and all the ways to keep your pet happy and healthy. Don’t forget, Animalia is offering $50 off all dental cleanings during the month of February!

Did you know more than 70% of pets show some degree of periodontal disease by the age of 3? Thorough annual examinations, yearly anesthetized dental cleanings by your veterinarian, and creating a daily oral hygiene routine can help reduce the risk of dental disease.

🦷 Periodontal disease is a term used to describe infection and associated inflammation of the tissues surrounding the tooth. It often begins with gingivitis and if left untreated, the infection can spread deeper into the tooth socket, destroying the bone altogether.

🪥 Thankfully, there are many ways we can help prevent plaque and tartar buildup by changing our routine! Daily tooth brushing using a toothpaste specifically formulated for pets is a great start. Dental chews and water additives can also help reduce or delay plaque and tartar build-up. Be sure to ask your veterinarian what products they recommend for your pet. You can find OraVet Chews, CET Enzymatic Chews, and tooth brushing kits here at Animalia, or visit our online pharmacy (link below) for convenient home delivery and auto-ship!

This is the look of pride and excitement when Dr. Mary Hall confirms your suspicions of being “best girl” and makes you your very own, personalized goodie bag!

Luxe stopped by for her senior comprehensive wellness examination and received the royal Doodle treatment of treats and lovings from the Animalia team. Yearly exams are important for many reasons, but a big one is that it helps create a baseline so your trusted veterinarian can keep a close eye on subtle changes in blood work, weight and dietary needs, oral health assessment, changes in vision or hearing, and keeping an eye on new lumps, bumps, or skin conditions.

Yearly examinations are also a great opportunity to discuss questions about your pet’s medications, preventatives, diet and vaccinations! We understand every patient is unique and not “one size fits all,” which is why we encourage questions and make our recommendations based on the knowledge of each specific breed, lifestyle, health history, and family needs. Being a pet parent is a tough job, especially with countless options and information to digest. Our job is to be your trusted source and help guide pet parents to make educated decisions regarding the health and wellness of their pets and family!

To schedule your pet’s annual wellness exam, give our client service team a call at 615-595-7100 or schedule online at your convenience by visiting our website, www.animaliawellness.com. We look forward to seeing you!

Miss Harli Mae and Gracie are a crowd pleasing duo with our friends at ! We’re so proud of our Canine Enrichment program and the joy it brings to our local assisted living residents, but we often forget to mention how important it is for our senior canines in return. The love and attention they receive during each visit is a beautiful thing to witness and we appreciate the continued opportunity to spend time with our neighbors every month!

This shining star has been a special part of our Animalia family for nearly four years and is one of the hardest working women we know. It’s prime snowbird season in Middle Tennessee, which means domestic and international travel for felines like Tigger! This handsome boy is braving the cold and dreaming of a tall Mai Tai, while our Animalia crew ensures he’s healthy for a grand adventure with the family. 🍹

Traveling outside the United States with your pet can often require a health certificate, which takes time, planning, and the help of your veterinarian. Your destination country sets requirements for pets entering the country, which can change at any time. Most require pets to arrive with a health certificate (also called an international health certificate, a veterinary health certificate, a veterinary certificate, or an export certificate). You must verify the country requirements each time you plan to travel with your pet and this may involve multiple agencies, including the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s (APHIS). We recommend utilizing a third party company who specializes in health certificates, as they are familiar with each country and their specific requirements.

For more information on traveling with your pet, visit www.aphis.usda.gov and be sure to plan ahead for a safe and smooth trip with the help of your trusted veterinary team!

Maggie Moonshine wants to remind everyone to please plan ahead with this winter weather quickly approaching! Prescription approvals take time, so we encourage our clients to submit all medication refill and prescription food requests by Thursday morning and arrange pick up by end of day in the event of a weather closure once the snow begins. We’ll keep you updated, but Miss Maggie says get “moo-ving” on those timely requests so your pet has all they need heading into the snowy weekend! 🐮

Asher & Atari are breaking out the Christmas gifts from grandma to prep for this winter weather! Cuddle up with your fur babes and a cozy blanket, as we dip into below freezing temperatures this week. Please plan ahead and follow our tips to ensure the safety and comfort of your pets!

🐾 Keep pets inside and limit cold exposure by shortening walks and bathroom breaks. Animals can become disoriented in the cold and snow, so do not leave them unattended and keep an ID collar on at all times. Provide a warm place for outdoor animals to shelter during extreme temps and remember to change water bowls often or invest in a thermal bowl to avoid a frozen water source.

🐾 Cats will hide inside car hoods for warmth, so make plenty of noise before starting your car. Antifreeze is poisonous to pets and has a sweet smell and taste that attracts animals, so clean up any leaks or spills on your driveway or inside the garage - especially when bringing outdoor animals into shelter during this cold snap! If you think your pet has ingested a potentially poisonous substance, call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 888-426-4435 and follow up with your veterinarian.

🐾 Check paw pads for ice and road salt after time outside. Some salts used to melt ice can burn your pet’s paws and could be toxic if ingested. Clean and dry those paws after every walk and consider keeping your own shoes in the garage to avoid tracking salt into the home.

🐾 If your pet has a medical condition, make sure to monitor it closely in the winter months. The cold weather can lower their immune system and aggravate chronic conditions such as arthritis. Check in with your trusted veterinarian with any changes or concerns you may have.

Stay safe out there, friends!

Before we bid a fond farewell to 2024, it’s important to reflect on our achievements, goals for the coming year, and the amazing community supporting us every step of the way!

This year, our focus has remained on cultivating an inspiring and compassionate veterinary team, expanding our services to offer the most comprehensive care, and providing the highest level of veterinary medicine to every patient. We simply couldn’t do any of it without you, our Animalia family, and look forward to continuing our promise of treating your pet as if they were our very own, by leading with warmth, kindness, and compassion.

As we close out this year and welcome a new, we remember the many beloved patients we’ve had the honor and privilege of caring for at Animalia. Each one has left an imprint on our heart and soul. Thank you for allowing us to care for your family and those precious to you. Wishing you many blessings, love and an abundance of good tidings in the new year! ❤️

Gracie is showing off her gifts from Santa and getting ready to celebrate the New Year in style! A reminder, Animalia will be closing at 2pm on Tuesday, December 31st and will remain closed on New Year’s Day.

Whether you’re hosting a party with friends, heading out for a night on the town, or enjoying a quiet evening at home, you can take simple steps to keep your pet safe and happy during the new year celebration:

𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒅 & 𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒌𝒔: Plenty festive food and drinks will be out on display if you’re hosting, but some ingredients are not safe for pets, causing digestive upset or more serious health problems. Consider keeping their favorite treats on hand to reward for good behavior and keep them away from those alcoholic beverages.

𝑫𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔: Streamers, balloons, and ribbons are commonly used for New Year’s Eve decorating. Be careful to keep these decorations out of reach of your pet, as they can cause problems like digestive obstruction, which could leave you ringing in the New Year at the ER. The loud noise associated with popping a balloon can also frighten your pet and may cause noise aversion.

𝑽𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔: With friends coming and going through your house, it’s often best to give your pet a safe space inside a closed room until all guests are settled or have returned home for the night. This will cut down on opportunities for stressed pets to bolt or escape artists to roam free.

𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒔: Loud pops and flashes of light can be scary for your pet, especially if left home alone. If you’re planning to spend New Year’s Eve elsewhere, create a comfortable space away from doors and windows where your pet can relax. Use white noise to mask the sound of fireworks, and spray bedding with products like Feliway (cats) and ThunderEase (dogs) with natural calming pheromones. If you know your pet is scared of fireworks or loud noises, it’s always a good idea to chat with your veterinarian about medications to provide relief from noise aversion symptoms for this holiday and upcoming celebrations. A little preparation can go a long way to ensure a fun, safe, and happy New Year!
