It's with the heaviest heart that I'm writing this post to say that our beautiful resident Rex has unexpectedly passed away.
Over the last year Rex quickly became a staple. Not only at the ranch, but in the community. Rex went almost everywhere with me, he put smiles on hundreds of peoples faces, and he was able to give people a new form of education, which is what the ranch is all about. Teaching people about these animals and showing them that we can live in harmony is the most important thing to us.
Rex had acquired cold-like symptoms, what we thought to be a possible respiratory infection, We treated the situation as such. Very quickly his symptoms progressed and turned into seizures, and one thing led to another. As detrimental as it is to all of us, we're relieved that our baby boy isn't suffering. Tests have been run with Rex, not only for our knowledge, but for the safety of the rest of our furry family at the ranch. Unfortunately nothing has yet to be found. We're hoping that our veterinarians do find an answer for us, but as of now it looks that Rex had something that was untreatable, and unrecognizable. We're hoping at the very least to be able to educate ourselves, our friends, and others within the animal community. No matter how hard something is, the situation can be used to learn a thing or two.
Roger, our 2 year old red kangaroo, absolutely loved Rex. Rex was about a month away from going to hang out with Roger permanently. Kangaroos typically live in their pouch for about a year before heading to the big world. We will be taking this time to grieve, and try to better analyze the situation, however we will look for another friend for Roger at some point. There will never be a replacement for Rex, as he had so much personality and he loved us as much as we loved him. However, We believe in the buddy system here. Everybody deserves somebody.
I feel that it's very important that we're transparent with the community, as the community loves these animals like we do. People build bonds with these animals, and come back time and time again to see them, watch them grow, and learn more about them. Every animal that steps foot on this property is a life long commitment, we grow with our animals, And we will continue to do so.
Make sure to love your furry family members a little extra, you never know where life is headed.
Thank you for reading, and being involved in Rigden Ranch, it means the world to us. We hope to see you all this coming season β€οΈπ¦
