Sir Toomey "Grrr" Jenkinschmid enjoyed his time outside in the icy slush this afternoon and had to be forced to come inside, where he proceeded to jump on the bed and get it covered in melting snow!

So the great snowacolypse of January 2024 really didn't happen much around Racine and we probably didn't need to close the clinic today. We will assess road conditions tomorrow and if bad overnight may get a late start but will hopefully still be able to see everyone who is scheduled. For those who had their appointments moved we thank you! Our employees safety is important and some drive in, so while conditions near the lake may be ok things can be bad further inland.
Thanks again for your understanding!

Hi friends ! The grand high council of cats has spoken!
Because of the anticipated winter storm tomorrow in the interest of safety for our team we are preemptively closing the clinic tomorrow. Thanks in advance for your understanding! For those who have to go out, stay safe and drive carefully. Everyone else stay home and snuggle with your fur kids.

Update on the freeway kitty:
I stopped by the Racine HS to check on our little girl Thursday. It was challenging locating her because they wanted to know " her name", which I didn't have. I let them know the date of arrival and the circumstances and eventually they located her. They are calling her Malibu (we plan to call her Faith, because only an act of faith kept her from harm on the freeway). She apparently is sneezing and being treated for upper respiratory symptoms. She was also dehydrated upon arrival, but this has corrected. She has not been released for foster or adoption at this time. I asked WHS to update us when she is stable enough for release. We will keep everyone updated

If it happened in England, it can happen here! Breed specific legislation is real and dangerous! We have already seen how insurance companies can affect dog ownership. There is a temporary ban on requiring euthanasia of bully breeds in England...may they win their fight! Be aware. Don't let it happen here. Prayers for the bullies in rescue across the big pond

Now in force - England and Wales:
"New restrictions on the XL Bully dogs are now in force (31 December) making it a legal requirement for all XL Bully dogs to be kept on a lead and muzzled when in public. It is also illegal to breed, sell, advertise, gift, exchange, abandon or let XL Bully dogs stray from today."
Please also note:
For the purposes of this law - the Public Place for leash and muzzle includes inside a vehicle when the vehicle is on the public highway - that is leash held by someone not less than 16yr old and muzzle on just like you would walking down the street, this is due to case law.
If anyone would like to chat to someone with an exempted dog - Sky's mum can be contacted on Sky - Saved from BSL

Update on the freeway Kitty. I took her to Franksville vet clinic and paid to have some x-rays taken to make sure nothing was fractured. She does have an odd Bunnyhop gait, and there is some arthritis, but no fractures that were seen. Our little traveler is now currently at Wisconsin humane so that if somebody is missing her, they can hopefully reclaim her. She's a wonderful kitty.

Hello all! Ongoing freeway rescue. Waiting for officers so we don't chase injured cat into traffic. Appointments may be delayed this morning

Update: with the help of law enforcement, I was able to get the kitty captured safely! Thank you officers!

Right now we know there is no microchip, brown tabby female adult.

I love the name of this kitty!

Soon we start a new year for bear cubs. Even though we may not be aware, somewhere in a secluded den under the snow a mother bear, black bear or brown bear (grizzly) will give birth to tiny, nearly hairless and definately helpless babies known as cubs. 1 to 3 will be born and for the next 2 to 3 months the mother bear will heed to the constant needs for her babies while in her den. She does not get to have her babies and go back to sleep for the balance of the winter. She will always be aware of where her cubs are, keeping them close to her so they stay warm. January is exciting because in the bear world, new beginnings start now.!

If you've caught a mudpuppy recently, let us know! Mudpuppies are a species of special concern, and we track verified observations. Send us a quick email with the date, location, and photo to [email protected]. 💧

Happy holidays to all! I like to keep you updated when we have an unexpected occurrence from the good Samaritan fund. Many of you may be aware of the fire that hit on Washington Avenue the other day. Right now to my knowledge, there are two cats and one Chihuahua that have been displaced along with 27 human residents. The cats reportedly are being taken care of. the good Samaritan fund will be providing food blankets, doggy sweaters and harnesses, etc. for a little Chihuahua. I will be delivering these tomorrow. To those who contribute to the good Samaritan fund thank you. We currently have four homeless people that we are trying to take care of this winter.
