The Power of a Therapy Dog🐾🐾🐾🐾

Having a partnership with the Thurmont Police Department brings unique opportunities for our Wags For Hope therapy teams to make a difference.

This afternoon, two teens came into the station upset after experiencing bullying. While the amazing officers handled the situation, Team Lucy was there to provide comfort and support. It’s incredible how therapy dogs can change a person’s mood, offering a sense of calm in difficult moments.

As the teens left, we reminded them that they’re always welcome to stop by and visit our official therapy dog anytime they need a little extra comfort.

Remember—Be a Buddy, Not a Bully!

It's Team Bruno and Team Joey spreading joy at Literacy Night at the Celebree School of Spring Ridge!

Reading is important at every age—it’s never too early to start! Our Wags For Hope therapy dog teams work with all ages, from little learners to lifelong readers, providing comfort, encouragement, and a fun way to engage with books.

Great job, Team Bruno and Team Joey! And a big thank you to Celebree School for inviting us to be part of this special night!

🚀 Thurmont Elementary's Literacy Night Was Out of This World! 🚀

Wags For Hope had an amazing time at Thurmont Elementary School’s Literacy Night! Our therapy dog teams—Woodie, Regan, Wayne, Bruno, and, through our partnership with the Thurmont Police Department, the well-known Team Sparkle and Lucy—were thrilled to be part of this stellar event.

Students and parents had the chance to meet the Fantastic 6 Therapy Dog Teams, collect trading cards, enjoy coloring pages, and learn about upcoming READ with a Therapy Dog events at Frederick County Public Libraries.

Why is Literacy Night important? It brings families together to celebrate the joy of reading, helps children build confidence in their literacy skills, and creates a positive learning environment. Events like these inspire young readers and reinforce the importance of storytelling and shared learning experiences.

A huge thank you to Thurmont Elementary School for the invitation and for supporting literacy in such a fun and engaging way! We loved every moment!

We were honored to be invited to Literacy Night at North Frederick Elementary School on March 26th! Our therapy dog teams—Skyler, Maya, Joey, and Chewie—were excited to be part of this special evening, sharing the joy of reading with students and families.

Why is Literacy Night important? Events like these help foster a love for reading, build confidence in young readers, and encourage family engagement in learning. When children have the opportunity to read in a fun and supportive environment, they develop stronger literacy skills that benefit them for a lifetime.

A big thank you to North Frederick Elementary for welcoming us and for promoting the power of reading in such an engaging way! We loved being part of this wonderful event!

Join Us at the SECAC Resource Fair! 🐾🎉

The Special Education Citizens Advisory Committee (SECAC) of Frederick County works alongside students, families, FCPS staff, and the community to support and advocate for individuals with special needs. Their mission focuses on open communication, improving resources, and putting children first.

This event is a great opportunity to connect with local organizations that provide services for individuals with special needs and disabilities.

🐶 Wags For Hope will be there with our therapy dogs from 10 AM – 12 PM! Stop by, say hello, and experience the comfort and joy our therapy teams bring.

On March 19, 2025, Wags For Hope held our All-Members Meeting, where we reflected on the incredible events of 2024 and celebrated the dedication of our amazing therapy teams.

Heartwarming Visits at Northampton Manor Nursing Home

Today, Team Nellie and her friend Sparkle brought smiles and comfort to the residents of Northampton Nursing Home! Team Sparkle had the opportunity to visit a very special person and make new friends, while Nellie was overjoyed to see her familiar friends again.

Therapy dogs play a vital role in nursing homes, offering companionship, emotional support, and unconditional love. Their presence can help reduce stress, ease feelings of loneliness, and even improve cognitive function in residents. Simple interactions like petting a dog can boost mood, lower blood pressure, and bring back cherished memories.

Therapy Dog Visit to Sabillasville Environmental School!🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Yesterday, Teams Woodie, CoCo, and Lucy brought smiles and wagging tails to the students at Sabillasville Environmental School! What a fantastic visit outdoors during recess—perfect weather, happy kids, and lots of tail wags.

Therapy dogs provide comfort, reduce stress, and encourage positive social interactions. Their presence in schools helps students build confidence, regulate emotions, and even improve focus in the classroom. Moments like these create a welcoming and supportive environment where students can relax, connect, and enjoy the unconditional love of a dog.

Surprise Therapy Dog Visit at Thurmont Middle School!🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

Yesterday, Wags For Hope therapy dog Lucy made a special surprise visit during 7th-grade lunch at Thurmont Middle School! Students were thrilled to spend time with her, enjoying some well-deserved puppy love in the middle of their school day.

Lucy’s visit was part of the school's ongoing partnership with Wags For Hope and the Thurmont Police Department, rewarding students for positive behavior and achievements. Her wagging tail and gentle presence brought plenty of smiles and stress relief!

We love seeing the joy our therapy dogs bring to students—stay tuned for more visits!

The READ (Reading Education Assistance Dogs) program helps children build confidence and improve reading skills by reading aloud to a trained therapy dog. These patient, non-judgmental listeners create a relaxed and supportive reading environment for young readers.

Wags For Hope 🐾 & Thurmont Police Department : A Partnership in Action 🎬

Today, our partnership with the Thurmont Police Department truly made a difference. While Sparkle The Therapy Dog was on location at the office, an injured teen required medical attention from Thurmont Ambulance Company. Thankfully, she’s going to be okay, but in that stressful moment, Sparkle’s calm presence provided much-needed reassurance. Sitting by her side, Sparkle helped ease her anxiety—and even brought a few smiles!

Before leaving, a promise was made to visit Thurmont Middle School on Monday, March 24th, bringing even more comfort and joy to the community. We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Thurmont Police Department and look forward to many more opportunities to work together.

Sparkle’s adorable personality and perfectly polished nails turned an upsetting moment into one filled with a little more warmth and a lot more wagging!

🌸🐾 Sparkle the Therapy Dog with Wags For Hope had a wonderful visit to Rock Creek School today! Dressed in her festive First Day of Spring outfit with freshly painted nails, she brought smiles, joy, and excitement to students and staff alike.

The teachers were grateful for her visit, and the students were thrilled to see her, greeting her with big smiles and happy energy. Sparkle loves visiting this FCPS community and can’t wait to return soon! 💕🐶
