House of Puddles

House of Puddles House of Puddles is a nonprofit rescue and sanctuary for senior hounds. Please help HOP help our seniors!

We provide a permanent, loving home for old hounds, primarily basset hounds, beagles, and mixes, that nobody else wants.

Willow is on her way. She's a tripod because she was hit by a car and only given pain meds for it. When I take her to the vet I'll ask if it can be repaired.

Do you follow Debbie's Dawgs on Facebook? They are a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to helping senior bassets in rescue. Every month they hold fundraising events for featured non-profit rescues. And guess what! House of Puddles will be featured the first week in February. So please join them and help raise money for our senior hounds. Plus, many members like to post photos of their own bassets (not for fundraising). How can you resist that?

When you come home from an errand and most of the dogs meet you at the door, but these two are like this. You kind of have to wonder what HOPpers Maggie and Sniffers were getting into while you were away. 😂

We are truly grateful for all of you who have supported us. Our mission would be impossible without your help. But our funds are dwindling. We need to ask for help again. It's not too late to make a year-end tax-deductible donation.

We spend on average $1,400 on each new dog and our intake for 2024 is 17 seniors, many more than we've taken in previous years. That's nearly $24,000 just for "start up" costs. When they come to us they all have exams and tests for heartworm, Lyme disease, bacterial diseases, intestinal worms and organ function. We treat any of those issues they have. Many have gum disease and teeth that need to be extracted so we provide dentals as well as any needed surgeries, such as lump removal, spays and neuters.

You've probably heard all of this before but we can't stress it often enough. The rest of our expenses are for their maintenance - annual exams, vaccinations, medications, food and supplements.

Can you please help with a year-end donation? Any amount helps, it all adds up. We accept Paypal (including debit and credit cards), Zelle, Venmo, and checks. Our email address for Paypal, Zelle and Venmo is [email protected]. Don't forget to ask your employer if they will match your donation.

We had a changing of the guards. Blacky (L) passed away Sunday. He was only here a very short time. He was sick when we got him with kidney and heart disease and was very emaciated. He had no interest in any food and the anti-nausea and appetite stimulants didn't work. I'm very sad we couldn't help this sweet boy.

Louie arrived yesterday. His owner had an electrified fence but the battery on his collar was dead so he was always leaving the yard to roam the streets. A concerned neighbor took him to the shelter for his safety, and then she found us to rescue him and even helped with the drive. He's a very dear boy. A little on the thin side but he has a good appetite. Welcome to HOP, sweet Louie!

Please help Louie get to House of Puddles. He's living in a shelter and we want to get him home before Christmas. If you can drive a leg, please message Michelle Alexander. Thank you!

I had to let Amy go today. She'd been acting like she was uncomfortable for a couple of days, grunting a lot, breathing a little heavy, and wouldn't eat. The vet took x-rays and found a large tumor in her abdomen that she thought was likely malignant. On top of that, she had been diagnosed with kidney failure two months ago. Amy was such a big, beautiful girl. She hadn't been here long, just since Sept. But it felt like she'd been with me a long time.
