This is Grayson. He is part of the beginnings of Zipper and the Kittens. He was an eight month old kitten when he and his family chose us to care for them outside our home. We knew very little about the care of kittens or cats at that time in 2013. Considered feral, all 15 kittens and cats have been vetted and cared for with food, medical care, safety and most importantly, love. 💜 The story has many happy moments along the way with some heart breaking events to keep us learning. Joe and I have learned so much from the kittens and cats that have been entrusted to our care. We have made many, many great friends along the way. Yesterday was another feather in our cap of learning. The amazing Dr. Kim Williams with Prettyboy Animal Hospital, took care of Grayson at a point where we thought we might lose him. Over two months he was telling us he wasn’t well. Vet visits ended with no concern. Well….my heart of hearts knew differently as he refused to eat for almost seven days. Bloodwork showed some trouble. Dr. Williams made quick suggestions and, we agreed with her recommendations. He was hospitalized for the day to receive X-rays and an insulin treatment. Dr. Williams was concerned with some values from his bloodwork that there may be a hidden mass with signs of cancer. X-rays showed no masses! One of her initial thoughts was diabetes. She monitored him and the insulin levels for the day. He is home, slowly showing improvement. His next treatment day is Wednesday. Checking insulin levels and adjusting as needed. Lance was attacked by a hawk. As she was recovering, the family that was feeding her, allowed her to recover in their garage. In the meantime, she delivers 4 babies. Two of her babies survived. I will have her healing wound checked by our vet. She is small and undernourished. Lance will be looking for a home in the near future. Thank you for letting me care for her!
