Our Compost Bins Email from Reid
There was a lot of time and energy applied to the compost system and I wanted to share a few reminders so that it keeps working for us.
-new additions go on the first pile (nearest the parking lot). If full, stack out side of bins. Then moving more done material to the right and then filtered to the right again eventually
-cut pieces before adding to pile roughly no longer than your forearm or thicker than your thumb.
-turning any part of any pile with a heavy rake or shovel helps oxygen get in and keeps the process moving forward
- watering during the summer will keep all piles active so spend a couple minutes spraying them down if you have the chance
-Weeds and plants with lots of seeds should be diverted into the trash bins as our pile doesn’t likely get hot enough to cook and deactivate the seeds.
-enjoy finding all the living things in the compost including the two lizards and toad we uncovered yesterday! (May 19)
From left to right, bins 1, 2, 3

Thanks again for our work to keep our beautiful garden and garden community growing strong.
