KEEP YOUR FURRY FAMILY MEMBERS IN MIND THIS SEASON!

Seasonal plants like poinsettias are toxic to cats and dogs. If ingested, they cause vomiting & diarrhea. Opt for artificial plants or simply don’t use these varieties.

Also keep in mind that small ornaments pose a choking hazard.
Anything that could hurt your pet should be kept out of reach or out of the house altogether.

Happy holidays!

After nearly two weeks full of stress, anxiety, sleepless nights, and adverse weather: this girl is SAFE!

HUGE thanks to Melissa Pollard for her dedication and expertise. Without her diligence we would not have been able to get this gal safe. We are beyond thankful for your commitment to recovering lost dogs.

We are grateful this dog is finally out of jeopardy. We will post updates as we know more about this girl! Please do not call our office regarding adoption. This dog will be held for a five day hold, and will need to be medically and behaviorally evaluated before we can determine if we can adopt her out.

If you recognize this dog, or know how she ended up on top of Sleepy Creek Mountain, please call our office at 304-258-6363.

There was also a manx, calico cat that appeared to be dumped along with the dog. Unfortunately the cat did not make it.

We haven't been able to secure the dog on the mountain.

This is why. Folks stop, read the signs, and STILL take it upon themselves to try to capture the dog. Folks are still leaving out food. Folks are still interfering with our scent trails. They're still interjecting themselves and putting this dog further at risk.

She will NOT come to you. The only way we can safely secure this dog is by trapping her. We made major progress last night. Tonight we would have had the dog by now. We have seen the dog religiously at certain times every night. Tonight we haven't seen her at all because multiple people have stopped.

We have been working diligently with a lost dog recovery team member who excels at trappi g dogs. Our staff and the trapper have been there multiple times throughout the day and night for over a week.

This dog's safety and well-being is important to us. We have lost sleep, sacrificed time with our families and pets, all so we can try to get this dog to safety.

The sites are secured by video surveillance 24/7 by various cameras. We get immediate notifications when there's an alert. On top of that the lost dog recovery team member and our staff have been diligently patrolling the area.

You are not helping by stomping around in the woods looking for the dog. You are not helping by leaving food. You're not helping by camping out at the trapping sites.

This dog is at great risk, and the longer the dog remains in the wild the less likely we will be able to safely recover her.

Leave the dog alone.

Call our office with any questions or concerns.

Like I said last year around this time: No one wants to see your Christmas puppies in a shelter in February. Don't bring home a new addition to your family if you can't commit to keeping them. Know what breed you’re bringing home and their needs BEFORE you bring them home.

TRIGGER STACKING – WHEN BEHAVIOUR HAPPENS “OUT OF THE BLUE”

We’ve all had those days when nothing seems to go right and one frustrating thing after another happens to us, leaving us feeling wound up, stressed and ready to explode at the next unsuspecting person who dares to ask us something.

This “unsuspecting” person may think we have a serious behaviour problem or need anger management therapy, when the truth is that we’ve just had a really bad day or even a few bad days and don’t usually behave like this at all.

Dogs are no different and a behaviour that seems completely out of character or happens “out of the blue” is often caused by “trigger stacking”.

A trigger may be anything that increases a dog’s stress levels and has a negative impact on their emotional, mental or physical state.

These may be small things that we may not even notice or seem insignificant to us, but they are all adding to an increasing “stack” of events that may culminate in out of character behaviour.

When stress levels reach a certain point, the next stressful event, however small, may cause an explosive reaction that is completely unexpected.

Instead of just focusing on a particular behaviour and seeing it as a problem that needs to be prevented, take a step backwards, look at the bigger picture, look at events, circumstances or environmental factors that may have played a role leading up to that behaviour.

Being aware of potential stressors and allowing your dog time to decompress, relax and unwind for a few days will often mean the difference between “normal behaviour” and a behaviour that seems completely out of character.
