They are loyal, intelligent and beautiful animals and it breaks our hearts to think of them suffering or dying in shelters, or worse yet, dumped on the street. We are a 100% all volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue. We are funded through adoptions and donations from people just like you. Our hardworking and dedicated team is made up of GSD lovers who give up their time to care for and find loving

forever homes for the dogs in our program. The team has fostered and saved over 1,500 German Shepherd Dogs since we began in 2013! Most of our dogs come from shelters where they have been abandoned. Some come from owners who, no longer able to care for them, give their dog to us to find a loving forever home. The good news is that we encounter few dogs that we feel have been abused or seriously mistreated. Each dog that comes into our program is evaluated to the best of our ability. Our evaluators have many years of experience with the breed and have spent many hours learning dog behavior and language, worked with trainers, spent countless hours at shelters, etc. We strive to have dogs in our program that are people and dog friendly and we are firm believers in providing our adopters with full behavioral and medical disclosure on every dog in our program. Our dogs are placed in a foster home that is experienced with the breed or a daycare facility where they are evaluated for social skills with other dogs. Once we have spent some time getting to know each dog, we make the dog available for adoption. When you apply to adopt one of our dogs you will go through our adoption process where we learn more about you, your experience and your lifestyle. Our goal is to make a perfect match so our dogs stay with their new family and everyone is off to a good start. Many of our adopters decide to volunteer by fostering, fundraising, walking/grooming/transporting dogs or becoming matchmakers and helping more dogs find that perfect home. It’s a rewarding activity (no matter how big or small your role) that every rescue (and rescue dog) is grateful for. If you don't have the time to volunteer, you can donate. Marchesa is a friendly and social 4 year old female Malinois who loves being around and meeting people. She has great house manners and picks up on new things quickly, does really well in training.

She doesn’t have the intense working energy that some Malinois are known for, so is the perfect fit for someone who enjoys an active but balanced lifestyle.

She walks well on leash, does great on car rides, does well with dogs (needs some work), but no cats for her.

She's affectionate, eager to please, and ready to bring joy and companionship to the right home!

Loki is a 6-year-old (88 lbs) male who is friendly, easy-going, and calm. He gets along just fine with other dogs, walks nicely on leash, and can wait patiently in the house without getting into any trouble.

Holden is a 12 year old boy GSD mix that absolutely loves meeting people. He's pretty chill (says hi, hangs out for a bit and then does his own thing), and is best in a home without cats.

Holden is a gentle boy that enjoys a nice outdoor walk. He's a senior dude so some slick flooring can be tricky for him but nothing a rug won't fix. He has wonderful house manners and is not destructive or noisy if you have to step out for a bit.

Holden's beautiful grey face will warm your heart. He's waiting for his new family in Elk Grove.

Kota is a very sweet and gentle male GSD-mix puppy (6-7 months, 65 lbs) and is the perfect balance of playful & calm. He gets along with dogs (he's a bit scared of the rough ones) and has just been curious about the kitty.

He's a big, goofy puppy that is looking for an active home that will train him, take him places (he loves car rides) and teach him all about the world. Once he is older, he would make a great running partner.

He is great meeting new friends and loves everyone. He's a very fast learner and quite treat motivated (yay for training). He knows a few basics already but would love to learn more.

Boone is a sweet & gentle 2-year-old (68 lbs) male who loves the company of other dogs (no cats), and is friendly with people (once he gets to know you).

He can be just a little nervous around unfamiliar faces and needs some time to feel safe & adjust (a quiet home with patient/understanding adopters would be best). A calm, confident dog sibling to play with and hang out with is really important for him.

Once you earn his trust, his goofy side comes out; he will be affectionate and actually silly.

Ari is a 2 year-old (60 lbs) GSD with just a hint of Doberman - she has a sleek black coat and brown toes (and b***y :-), is super cute, really sweet & super affectionate.

Ari was adopted from BAGSR as a wee pup and returned 1.5 years later when her family no longer had time for her. Due to her lack of socialization, she has trust issues (we understand) and some environmental sound issues (loud cars and trucks, some beeping sounds and most likely fireworks). We are working on showing her people can be trusted and there's a great big world for her to explore.

Ari can be cautious when meeting new people and every once in while a random person will really scare her (we can relate). Once she meets you she is fine and she remembers you. Ari selective with other dogs, doing really well with some and not so well with others. We feel she would be best as an only dog so her hoomans can devote their time to her.

Ari LOVES the water, any water, and will jump in with joy. She's a great swimmer, likes to play fetch and she's very treat motivated. Maybe dock diving is in her future!

Ari grew up with a cat so she "may be" cat workable. She also grew up with young kids, however we would not recommend kids while she is adjusting to a new home. Ari is comfortable visiting stores/places, she loves going out and about and would thrive with a patient adopter and new adventures/explorations.

We know Ari will need that calm, knowledgable person with time and a big heart for dogs like her but we won't give up. We know you are out there and we know she will be your everything - she just needs a chance. In the meantime, she will be waiting in Santa Rosa.

Huey - the name means Mind; Spirit; Intellect. Puppy Huey is GSD smart, adolescent naughty and very sensitive. (Please ONLY read on IF you have solid experience working with dogs who need more than the average pup.)

This handsome boy is approx. 4-5 months old. His ability to learn and unfold outside of the shelter has been a joy. Huey is responsive, inquisitive and very quick to learn as he experiences new things.

He is making new friends, learning about dogs and exploring everything from the beach to the shopping center. The key for him is taking time to understand his emotions and then letting him set the pace. Huey WILL need work. He is not going to be a great fit for a starter home. For the lucky person who builds trust with him and helps him navigate these crucial developmental stages, Huey is a prize.

Warning- he does have his own bed and will lay on it but he prefers to snuggle up with you :-)

Stoney is a young (~2 yrs), energetic male pup with a gorgeous white coat and a lean, athletic build at 66 lbs. He's friendly and sweet with people, and loves to play especially with the two female dogs he lives with.

He gets along well with other dogs, but does best with slow introductions, to get to know each other properly. Stoney also lives with a cat and does well, but is tempted to chase cats he sees outdoors.

Stoney looking for a home that can keep up with his playful energy and give him plenty of activity to keep him happy and healthy.

He rides well in the car and loves sticking his head out the window to feel the breeze. Stoney also enjoy toys, ropes, and balls—playtime is the best! Plus, he walks nicely on a leash, so he's always ready for an adventure with you.

Alice is a tiny package of puppy adorable. At ~11 weeks old, Alice appears to already have some basics. She will sit nicely for attention, enjoy yummy treats and look for direction.

Alice has a beautiful puppy soft coat and gives the sweetest puppy kisses. Loves dogs and people and feels very comfortable when she's held in your arms.

She's got four resident fur siblings from 3-13 years old and does well with them all. She's also started crate training. Being so young, she still needs to go potty during the night (has basic potty training). This girl is well balanced, unarguable very cute and fearless. She's curious, playful and wicked smart - and adores her toys.

This girl is looking for a best friend!! We're taking applications for this sweetheart. She's a real treasure and absolutely adorable.

Travis is a 2 year old (69 lbs) male GSD-mix - he is handsome, loyal, intelligent, trainable, soft to touch, and very playful. He loves toys, has good temperament, is sweet, needs a bit of leash training, has a nice off switch and is very affectionate once he gets to know you.

Travis is a fine dog who will thrive in an active environment with a normal exercise routine, just nothing too high impact. He might be better with older kids, "may be" cat workable (will need a slow and supervised introduction), and could use some socializing with other dogs.

Ramsey is a 5.5 yr old big handsome boy who is friendly with everyone he meets. Don't let that fool you though, as he's the typical GSD and will alarm bark to let you know someone is there. Ramsey is a sweet and affectionate boy and likes to be with his family. He's active and ready to do whatever you want to do, even if it's chilling out at home.

Ramsey loves to play fetch and 'most of the time' will bring it back and drop it for another round. He can be a little stingy sometimes but a second ball works great. Ramsey has shown some mild resource guarding (growling only) and will need an owner that understands him. He has never bitten and we believe this is something he learned that 'worked' for him in the past (bluffing to get his way maybe).

Ramsey would prefer to be an only dog. He does ok around other dogs on leash however he doesn't really like them in his face and will let them know that. Dog parks are not his place, too many unrulies for him. He walks well on leash, has good house manners, and knows his basics.

Ramsey has met several local kitties and with proper intros with a dog savvy cat, he could be ok with them. Ramsey loves hanging out with his people and will make a great companion for the GSD savvy owner. He's hanging out in Santa Rosa - come say hi.

Jackson (black and tan) is available for a forever home. He's quite the ham and looking for fun loving families that will teach him to be a social and balanced dog. He loves the company of other dogs.

Jackson is the easiest dog we've ever fostered. This floof ball loves water as you can see, being outside and has a fantastic recall. He's very sweet and likes to crawl in your lap and seek kisses. He's young and very keen to learn. Crate and house trained, he has so much more to offer. Please come and meet him in Newcastle. He's really one in a million and he loves dogs and being with you.

Marzan the puppy is available for that one special family/person. He loves dogs, people, crate and potty trained and sleeps well through the night. He loves to snuggly and he's squishy soft like a marshmallow. Such a good pup. We've saved the best for the last !

Marzen is a rough and tumble boy, loves to play play and play. He's game to go for walks anytime you want (just watch the paws in the heat) and he loves people and especially Kids. Lots of videos with kids, but we can't show them here on social media. So, trust us, he loves small children ! Marzan is 12 weeks old and weighs around 26 lbs.

Link has a crush on Gemma. Foster Mom is in love. Someone needs to go adopt Gem Gem.
