Last week, we found newborn puppies abandoned outside our shelter.
While we're caring for them, we want to remind everyone of our “No More Litters” program. This program allows owners to surrender puppies for adoption once they're old enough to be away from their mother and provides FREE spaying/neutering for their parents.
Spaying is crucial for preventing overpopulation and ensuring every pet has a loving home. Let's work together to make a difference! ❤️
This Pet Memorial Month, we take a moment to reflect on the cherished memories we hold of the pets who have touched our lives and left paw prints on our hearts. Our shelter is full of adorable puppies and kittens just waiting to meet you. These little ones are ready to fill your home with joy, laughter, and endless snuggles.
Our veterinary team had a productive and impactful day in Burke County, successfully spaying and neutering 23 animals on Day one. This critical work is a vital part of our mission to reduce overpopulation and promote healthier communities. We were also excited to have our first relief technicians trained today, further strengthening our ability to provide top-notch care to the animals we serve. The dedication and hard work of our team ensure that more animals will have the chance to live healthier, happier lives.
Twelve years ago, we welcomed 13 dachshunds into our care through the Georgia Humane Society, who rescued them from a heartbreaking "puppy mill" situation. One of those brave pups was Shelby, and he just celebrated his 12th Gotcha Day with his loving family.
Shelby's adopter shared with us that he is "well loved and spoiled rotten," a true testament to the power of rescue and the incredible bond that forms when a dog finds their forever home.
Thank you to Shelby's family for giving him the life he deserves, and to everyone who played a part in his journey. Here's to many more happy years, Shelby!

Despite thorough blood work and tests, we haven't found any medical issues, yet Onyx isn't doing well in the shelter environment. He needs a calm, loving home where he can regain his strength and thrive. If you can open your heart and home to Onyx, even temporarily, you could make all the difference in his life. Have you ever wondered what life is like for shelter animals? Our Adoption Angel Lock-In gives you the opportunity to experience it firsthand. By participating, you’ll spend a day in a kennel alongside one of our rescues, simulating what our dogs and cats experience daily. During your time in the kennel, you can share your experience on social media or reach out to friends and family to help "raise your bail money" for the cause—because you're locked in until you do!
All funds raised will directly benefit the animals in our care and will also cover the adoption fee for the pet you’re paired with. While you only spend one day behind bars, remember that these animals spend 23-24 hours in their kennels every day, waiting for a home. This event offers a unique chance to walk in their paw prints and see why we’re so passionate about finding them loving families.
