When you neuter male cats, you:
- Help reduce the overpopulation of cats
- Reduce unwanted behaviors such as inter-cat aggression
-Reduce roaming in male cats
-Reduce the risk of testicular and prostate cancer
-Reduce the urge for your male cat to spray urine to mark territory.

It's snake season again. All of our scaly buddies are out in full force. While many people are afraid of most snakes these are the ones to respect the most, our venomous friends. When encountering snakes outside keep a few things in mind
1-They don't see you as prey and will only bite defensively if provoked. Don't step on them or poke them, they'll go on their merry way.

2-If you can't ID it, don't handle it. Most snake bites occur when folks step on them or attempt to catch or handle them.

3-If bitten by a venomous snake chances are unlikely that you'll die. It's going to be a painful ride. You'll need medical attention with anti-venom. Keep calm, don't move, don't use a tourniquet, and dial 911.

4-Wear a closed toed shoe when outside working in snake country. It offers a small degree of protection against envenomation.

5- Leave it alone, and it'll leave you alone. It takes discipline to apply this adage, but it's 100% true.

6- Snakes don't chase. Don't move suddenly as it may provoke a strike. Instead, calmly take a step or two back

Is your pet on heartworm prevention?

April is Heartworm Awareness Month! Do you know how heartworms are transmitted? 🦟

Southeastern states have the greatest prevalence of heartworm infections, and there is almost a 100% chance that a dog living in Georgia will have the disease by age 5 if they are not giving a monthly preventive treatment. Your pet(s) should be on year-round prevention and tested annually!

Friends of Feral Felines has gotten nearly 10 contacts about injured cats just last week. Below Stray Cat TNR explains why we MUST neuter male cats.

Q: Why are we seeing so many injuries to male cats this time of year?

A: It’s most likely because mating season has officially begun.

Unneutered male cats go through horrible suffering in order to satisfy their natural urges. 😕 They will roam up to 5 miles to find a female in heat. They can encounter many dangers on this trek, including traffic, little food or water, other animals, unkind humans, etc.

Once they find a female, they most likely have to fight other tom cats for her, resulting in terrible injuries 🤕 and spreading diseases through the deep bite wounds they suffer. 🚫

✅️ A neutered male will stay closer to home because the urge to breed is gone which leads to fewer injuries/illnesses!!

‼️All of this suffering for males (AND the females they are trying to mate with) is 💯% preventable through spay and neuter.

DON’T WAIT until you start seeing kittens in your neighborhood. If you see adult cats, make a plan now! Be a hero now and save them from future suffering.
