These three kiddos came in with their mom and were able to go into foster care all together. They are described as very friendly with energy to keep you entertained and keep a smile on your face. While they love to run and play all day, they don't mind taking a rest to cuddle up together so they can save their energy for later. They love to capture your attention with their funny playful tactics or their funny faces while bird watching. Don't miss out on these sweet gentlemen, ready to go to their forever homes very soon!

This sweet guy came in with his other 5 brothers and sisters. While Floki might seem like the odd-looking man out, just the like his namesake, he is best guy around with a heart of gold that always has a smile on his face. He is currently thriving in foster care; learning commands and working on his potty training, while also being leash and crate trained. Floki loves to watch people and crawling up in someone's lap, but he doesn't mind playing a round of fetch or playing with the water from the hose. Floki would even do well in a household with cats or a family that is always ready to go to the beach or just explore the world. But don't take our word for it! Meet Lollipop - a beautiful, 1.5 year old grey pittie! Lollipop is as sweet as the candy she is named after. Lollipop has been in-and-out of the shelter since July 2023, spending time in a foster home and failed adoptive home (through no fault of her own)!

Lollipop has a lot of energy - she is certainly a great adventure buddy. She absolutely loves water. Whether its bath time, the hose, the pool, boats - she loves all of it! Lollipop does great on a leash and is polite in public. She used to love trips to PetSmart with her former foster family. Lollipop loves all kids (big and small), other animals, and even cats and rats. She is kennel trained and knows her basic commands. Best yet, she makes the perfect cuddle buddy at the end of a long day!

Time to introduce our Pets of the Week - Pita and Sir!

😺 Meet Pita! Pita is president of the Cat Adoption West Greeting Committee and he takes his role very seriously. Walk through the door to our community cat room and Pita is sure to welcome you with head butts and ankle nuzzles. Pita absolutely loves attention and basks in all the pets and scratches he is offered. He's so friendly, he will even lick and bathe you in return! Not only a fan of humans, Pita gets along with his kitty cat buddies at the shelter, helping to inspire confidence and bring them out of their shells. Formerly a street cat, this lover boy is ready for life inside the comfort of a home. If you are looking for a cat to greet you at the door and snuggle on the couch after work, Pita is sure to be your most loving companion.

🐶 Meet Sir! Are you looking for a goofy, active doggo to share your life with? If your answer is "yes, Sir!" then Sir is the guy for you! Sir is a very playful boy who loves his rope toys and playing tug. While in our care, Sir has been working on his leash manners and is getting better every day, proving just how trainable and ready-to-please he is! Sir loves rough-housing around the yard with his dog friends but enjoys calmly laying at your side for pets and snuggles all the same. Unfortunately, Sir has been at the Galveston Island Humane Society for over 150 days, wishing and waiting for his forever family to whisk him away from shelter life. With is beautiful tiger-striped pattern and lively personality, we just can't understand how someone hasn't snatched him up! Happy Foster Friday! 🥳🥳 Today we have some great groups of cats:

🐱: Atlas, Ardon, & Avalon
🔸2 months old 🔸affectionate & cuddly 🔸love to run 🔸always down for playtime 🔸 great with dogs & kids
These cute kiddos came to us as orphaned newborns and were placed into foster care straight away. But with some TLC and time, they have grown up into some great cats and are ready for their forever home. They have been with dogs and kids in their foster home, so they believe they are 1/2 human and 1/2 dog. While they are cuddly & affectionate, they never turn down a chance to play. And while they might be a bit smaller for their age, they don't let anything slow them down. They are coming up on their surgery date and are just counting the days until they find their forever home. Better hurry to put in that application for these kittens!

Meet Cassiopeia and Pyxis! Cassi and Pyxis were hand raised in the same foster home since they were two weeks old, respectively. They are both sweet as pie with personalities as bright as the constellations they are named after. While Pyxis has more of a rambunctious streak, Cassi is known for being especially affectionate. Both girls have loud purrs that they love to show off while cuddled up for a nap. Pyxis will contentedly make kitty biscuits while Cassi will snuggle down into your lap. Like most kittens, these girls are very playful and adventurous. They love hunting wand toys, scaling scratching posts, and chasing each other around their foster home. Since they have been in foster care before their eyes even opened, these girls are highly socialized and would make wonderful family pets. Though they don’t have to be adopted together, kittens do best in pairs, and they would make a great dynamic duo in a home together.

What a BIG weekend it was!
This past weekend we were able to take over two clinics for our BIG FIX spay Neuter Event. Not only were we able to Spay/Neuter over 100 animals in one day we have a little bit of overflow from residents who were not able to make the list in time.

Thank you to everyone that made this event possible and a success.
To our Donors who provided the Spay/Neuter Assistance Funding, The GIHS Staff who helped connect so many dots. The clinic staff that worked tirelessly to provide both quality and quantity care for so many animals.

Time to introduce our Pets of the Week - MoonBat and John Wick!

😺 MoonBat is ready to meet you - and we mean it! MoonBat isn't shy in the slightest and she absolutely loves interacting with people. This vocal gal won't hesitate to call out for your attention or headbutt you for pets and scritches. Though she is very much a "people cat", she doesn't always get along with other kitties and would do best in a home without other cats. At 4 years old, MoonBat still has all her youthful energy and loves to chase wand toys and roll around with kicker toys. She will make the perfect companion for someone looking for both a snuggly and playful adult cat. Not to mention she is cute as pie with her dilute tortie pattern and big green eyes!

🐶 Meet John Wick, or "Jay-Dub" as some of the staff call him. John Wick was found enjoying the beach all by himself and brought to the shelter as a stray. In his time at the shelter, he has gained some much-needed weight (and confidence)! John Wick has been a star student in our training classes, proving that not only does he know his basic commands, but he can be taught new tricks! John Wick is dog-friendly and loves to play in the water. He also loves curling up with a warm blanket for some lazy cuddle time. If you are looking for a laid-back, extra-friendly house hippo, John Wick is the perfect companion for you!

*Update* We now have information for where these two came from. We are grateful to the men who took the time to bring them to safety. These two pups were found tied to a pole next to Weiss Elementary this morning.

Strays of the day!
This morning we arrived to find two dogs tied to the front patio. While this may have been a kind hearted gesture, we are seeking some additional information for these pups. Happy Foster Friday! 🥳🥳 While we patiently wait for our young kittens to get fixed and become available, we have three fosters that have been with us since 2023: Teddy, Brandi, & Oreo!

These guys are considered our longest residents. We simply can't understand why they haven't been adopted yet, considering they are all amazing dogs! All of these dogs are dog friendly (with slow introductions), people friendly, fun for the whole family, and ready to find their forever homes after waiting for so long. Ask us more about any of these three today so we can match the perfect match today!

We would like to reintroduce you to Teddy.
This sweet boy is having a really tough time finding anyone willing to take him out on a date. He is dog friendly and has attended many GIHS events. He is playful and everything you could wish for in a road partner or couch compadre. Somehow as cuddly as he may be he is still waiting for his turn.

He has waited now for 400 days, sadly that's not a typo. He has spent the last 148 days in foster with our friends at Dogs At Dolphins View.

You heard that right, folks! The City of Galveston, Texas’s quarterly mascot - Chi - has been adopted! We are so happy for this boy and his new family!

Time for June's first Pets of the Week: Tia Dalma and Steve!

😺 Meet Tia Dalma! Tia came to GIHS with her kittens in tow - now, she is ready for a home of her own! Tia is both sweet and affectionate, and fierce and independent. She loves to explore and is always curious about new people, places, and things. Tia is a playful girl and can find entertainment with various toys, including wands and kickers. She has a rowdy play style, and is perfect for someone looking for an active kitty. At only 7 pounds, this 2-year-old girl is perfectly petite - which is great because she won't hesitate to climb on your lap. She likes to be pet and doesn't mind being picked up and held. As far as cats go, Tia is the whole package! Don't let this green-eyed beauty pass you by!

🐶 Meet Steve! Steve is our shelter's most cool, calm, and collected resident. Despite the chaos around him, Steve lays quietly in his kennel waiting for his future family to come find him. Steve is a 4-year-old, beautiful, chocolate brown Shepherd mix. Shelter staff loves his adorable facial expressions. In return, Steve loves humans! He walks well on a leash and loves to take easy strolls outside. He is eagerly awaiting his chance to explore this "beach" he keeps hearing about. Steve is a smart boy and already knows his "sit" and "paw" commands. Steve does well with both younger, high-energy pups and more neutral, relaxed adult dogs. He keeps to himself mostly but is happy to engage with another doggo who matches his laid-back play style. If you are looking for a chill, easy-going, relaxed boy to spend lazy days with, Steve is your guy!

Shamus is the ideal dog for someone who wants an easy, older boy who is gentle, sweet, dog friendly and doesn't pull on the leash! He found himself at the shelter after his previous owner could sadly no longer care for him. Shamus would be a great fit for a low energy household. While he doesn't mind hanging out, he still enjoys the company other dogs and does enjoy playing with them if they're around. Open your heart and home to this beautiful ginger boy to enjoy sunsets and quiet time on this little slice of paradise!

Aren’t these red heeler-mix puppies adorable? If you want to take one home, they will be up for adoption soon at the Galveston Island Humane Society.

The Daily News cherishes the animals on and off the island, so we try to help out whenever we can. Throughout the year, we donate newspapers to the humane society to use in crates. Weekly, we feature a cat and a dog as pets of the week in the newspaper to encourage adoptions. Individual staff members volunteer their time and drop off donations at the shelter. We also try to help the organization by spreading the word through our newspaper and online about adoptions, fundraisers, microchipping, vaccines and overcrowding.

Happy Memorial Day Monday - it's time for Pets of the Week! Let's meet Mildred Pierce and Mary Lou!

🐱 Meet Mildred! Mildred is a curious kitty who loves to explore and investigate everything around her. She especially loves interacting with people - when she was in our back kennels, she would always stand up and rub against her kennel door to greet staff. Now that she has moved into our Community Cat Room, she basks in the attention of everyone that comes in to meet her. Mildred loves her pats and butt scratches, and will nudge you to get your attention and affection. Mildred is also a very cozy girl. She loves making little blanket nests to nap in and has a favorite circular bed in the Community Cat Room. Mildred's ideal match is a household that will shower her with affection and cuddles, and provide cozy snuggle spots around the house.

🐶 Meet Mary Lou! Mary Lou is an even-keel, go-with-the-flow style gal. At 2.5-years-old, she likes playing with other dogs but never gets too rambunctious or rowdy. She has previously lived in a home with dog siblings and would make a great addition to a dog-having family. Mary Lou does great on a leash - she is perfectly content to go on leisurely walks or calmly explore a yard or garden. Mary Lou also loves human attention and affection! She is kid-friendly and will gladly roll over for a belly rub for anyone willing to oblige. Mary Lou is seeking a comfortable, medium-energy home. Could that be you?

It's Foster Friday, folks! Let's meet this week's featured fosters ⭐️

🐱 Meet Gemma! This little tripod is the bravest girl on Galveston Island! Last November, Gemma was brought to GIHS after being attacked by a coyote. 😧 She had deep puncture wounds, a paralyzed leg, and significant damage to her re**um. She required dedicated care and several surgeries to fix her injuries, including a full leg amputation! 🩹 Despite her suffering, Gemma remains the sweetest, spunkiest of kitties. She has made a full recovery in her foster home, where her personality has blossomed. Gemma absolutely loves batting around small mice or spring toys. 🐭Having three legs hasn't slowed her down at all, as demonstrated by her full-speed zoomies and play-time with her foster siblings. She is adorably demanding when it comes time for dinner, but she shows her thanks afterwards with snuggles and kitty biscuits. 😻 In short, Gemma is an absolute delight and would make a great companion for any family.

🐶 Meet Brandi! Brandi has been in foster care for over a year! 😯 Though her foster family loves her dearly, she really wants to find her forever family so she can truly settle down. Brandi gets along with other dogs (she has doggy siblings in her foster home), but does need a slow introduction before she feels 100% comfortable. 🐕Brandi's foster mom describes her as loving and goofy - just look at the smile she shows off in all of her photos! 👅 Brandi likes to think she is a small dog and will want to crawl into your lap the moment you sit down. She absolutely loves playing with just about any toy she can get her paws on. 🦴 Brandi is treat motivated so it is easy to teach her tricks and manners. She would be the perfect dog for any family with loves and hugs to give!

We are a bit late this week, but we want to introduce to you our Pets of the Week: Monica Gallagher and Queenie.

Monica Gallagher was snatched up quick and has already been adopted! So now we get to put all of the focus on our very own shelter royalty: Queenie 👑 Queenie is a beautiful, shy girl with all the love to give. Queenie came to us as a stray and was very scared on initial intake, but she warmed up to staff very quickly. In return, GIHS staff quickly fell in love with her smile and calm, cool, collected disposition 😍 Queenie loves hard chews, a good blanket, and a clean environment. She loves to go on walks while carrying her favorite stuffie toys in her mouth! She adores water and would absolutely thrive as a beach babe! ⛱ She gets excited at even the sight of other dogs and even seems interested in kitties and all their cuteness! Come by and meet this royal delight today!
