If you are thinking about a dane, they are a wonderful breed, I dont think I could ever not have one in my life. There are some things you should know, they have 0 body awareness, especially with their heads and tails. This was an accidental head to the eye from Stormy. The pictures are 9ver the first 5 days. Thank god she is cute.
Finding something that stormy both fits in and is comfortable in isnt easy, but I think we have a winner. She still comes to work with me to help teach classes so its important that she is willing to use something to show how place is done. Looks like i will be getting one for work and one for home so she doesnt get confused. Place is an important cue to teach for those times when you need your dog to stay somewhere out of the way for an extended period of time. I ask for a place and stay and then place treats around her to work on impulse control. She understands that she Isnt supposed to move until she is given the next cue.
The gentleness of stormy with the little ones amazes me every day. She sometimes doesnt understand her size, but is always so carefull with the younger grandkids.
Temperment is so important with these big babies. Without parents that are sound you will not get pups that can grow into this at 15 months old. How does stormy spends her days at work with me? She plays with small puppys and children all day. She loves her work days and she is such a good girl and gentle with young children and puppys of all sizes.
When your dog is black you improvise at night so you can see where she is when you are calling her into the house. Lol I have to say im loving the light up collar. I feel better letting her out on the property at night when I know I can see her if I want to check on her.
After closing we lock the automatic doors and I do some safe in store training. For a few minutes while I help fix shelves. She is definately doing really well, especially considering she is only 6 months old. Im definately proud of her.
How a 6 month old great dane puppy plays with other 5 month old puppys that are smaller than her....she gets down to their level. Lol
I try to still get some training in every day. Just to keep her on task. Being in the hotel we cant work on long distance come or sit so we are working on hand commands as hand signals rather than voice, it sets a good foundation for long distance tasks. We call these push ups. It took her a few minutes but she figured out what I wanted her to do.
