Jag HIT
Betty Sampsel's Jag (handler Kelli Friede) winning PM trial from yesterday. In the middle of it, she decides I am wrong and takes the wrong flank, but soon we have that sorted out and she finishes nicely.
Jag 6/9/24
Betty Sampsel’s Jag Practicing working from a distance. We are preparing for the trial and in Frenchtown next week.
Levi was with me when we moved the neighbors sheep this morning. I’d like to say it all went smoothly, but we did get there with all that we started with and Levi was able to hold a group of lambs that ran back halfway. He did well for not seeing large group since last year.
Jag had some blue ribbon moments this morning handling these extremely light sheep.
We have gotten the dogs out a couple times between rain storms….. not enough work for them …. Not really a day off for me ;)
Levi 5/21/24
The sheep were more than compliant after having pups work them earlier
Jag 5/20/24
I bought some hair sheep for Jag to practice on before the next trial. It took a few days for her to settle down and not over flank. We are much improved these days.
Levi 4/26/24
Unfortunately, Levi isn’t staying sound enough to trial. I keep working him some just to keep his sanity. he is not very exact when he’s not been consistently worked, that and I switched him from left/right to away/go bye a couple months ago. I will miss trialing this boy as he is so quiet that the sheep relax around him. He will still do farm chores and train just a little bit.
Jag 04/19/24
Jag and I are getting used to each other. She struggles with doing what I ask her to do when it would appear that the sheep might get away. Her flanks are pretty good… but she just can’t trust that they won’t run back to the gate (where the camera is). we have about three weeks to get that sorted out. I am confident that we can.

Ania Andersen and Quill at lessons in Great Falls today
Jag 4/12/24
Betty Sampsel’s Jag will be with me for the summer to do a little trialing. She is my backup plan in case Levi does not stay sound. Here I am asking Jag to actually walk on command when driving. Love this dog!
Levi 4/12/24
So I signed Levi up for the trial in Frenchtown next month. We are just getting back to work now after my foot surgery. In the past, I would just let him drive the sheep away however it worked out. Now I’m expecting him to peel them off the fence, after they pass me, and push them down the center of the pen. This was his last go for the day and his most successful. Only the fourth or fifth time he’s worked since January.
500 Sheep
Brinn helped move 500 sheep behind the feed truck. I like that she was worried that they weren’t in one group and was able to join the 2 groups....
Brinn and Levi got to move 500 sheep today. They gathered a pretty big field and then moved them across the highway and through Garneill to the neighbors place
What a wonderful part of the world we live in! All the dogs in for training have gone home now…. Lessons will still be available when the weather cooperates. Hope you all have a wonderful 2024!
Ania Andersen’s Quill
This is Ania Andersen’s Quill. About 100 yard outrun… And I believe his longest outrun to date. Several others worked on this today as well, but this is the one that I managed to video good enough to post
Levi 12/15/23
All the dogs got to work singles today. I like to do something fun after a few days of hard mental work. This is Levi on one of his sheep for the day
Jag 12/14/23
Jag is really excelling and driving. She just needs to learn to slow down and stay in that sweet spot where the sheep stay on the fence and still move forward.
Quill 12/14/23
Poor lighting I know… I like to work the dogs before the wind comes up. Quill has come along way with his inside flanks and fence line drives.
