I’ve been looking for the right words, but all I can really say is that I am so incredibly grateful yet so unbelievably heartbroken.
We received a text yesterday that crushed our family and will crush our whole rescue family. Miss Mona had cancer and the tumor was inoperable due to location. Her family wanted us to know the news and tell us how grateful they were to have had the time they did with her.
I hesitated at first as I felt it wasn’t our place, but I asked if we could come see her to tell her goodbye. I didn’t want to overstep, but we loved this girl so much too.
Mona’s family invited us over with open arms. Ryan finished up his tattoo and we flew over there to see her.
What I want to tell you is that Mona could not have had a better family to spend her last months of life with. This family suffered a massive loss with their first family dog last year. Their kids were hurting, they were hurting, and they just wanted to give a rescue dog a good life. And I’m so fu***ng sad that they found their dream girl just to have to tell her goodbye 8 months later.
This family did not have to tell us what was going on, they did not have to invite us into their home, and they did not have to do everything they’ve done for Mona, but they did. They not only did everything they possibly could, they also put her first. They took the extra step to have a vet come to their home to ensure Mona was the most comfortable in her final moments. Mona passed away peacefully in their home surrounded by so much love.
Mona loved them and their children so much and they all loved her just as much.
We will forever have a special place in our hearts for Mona and for her family. Mona made it from years of abuse and torture in Georgia all the way to our rescue in Ohio and into their home. That was not an accident. Mona ended up exactly where she belonged at the exact time she was supposed to. And now she can rest peacefully, pain free, knowing nothing but comfort and love.
Please please keep her family in your thoughts and join me in thanking them for everything they did for the girl that deserved it the most.
We love you, Mona & Greear Family.
Rest easy Mona girl ❤️
