With this being Otto’s final week of training with us we shift our focus more to the application of obedience in the real world and he did such a great job!

Having some one on one playtime with Sapphire which is also a great time to practice the “out” command 🐾
We always receive occasional updates from Hui and his owners about how he’s progressing and the adventures they go on since he’s been home from his dog training program. This week we received such an amazing update where Hui held his place command despite being apart of their local St Patrick’s Day parade and we love to see him handle the parade like a pro!
With a big trip like heading down into the city, we like to take an additional dog with us so that we can use the chaos to help improve their obedience. Zeke was the winner this time as he is advanced enough in his training to handle the pressure and he’s a young dog that could use the life experience! We would say the stairs were likely the hardest part for him but he had trust in our guidance and saw it through.

Last week we took advantage of the warmer weather and brought our group class outdoors to help them work on their walking skills and providing a bit of distraction with the addition of new dogs like our corgis, our Dutch Shepard, and a boerboel.

Arlo is doing so well as we take our time with his training and decompression from being in a shelter environment. He has been completely weaned off of the anxiety medication, we are getting him to a healthier weight, and slowly changing his relationship with the leash so that he can accept the control and direction that comes with it. We still have a ways to go, but we’re definitely on the right track for Arlo 🐾♥️

Those who are more advanced or will be used later on for socialization are put on a duration place while newer dogs are worked in the more center part in the room. For Lua, we are transitioning her into our style of training while exposing her to dogs we will later introduce her to.

It’s always such a treat to watch two dogs figuring out how to play together when they’re first getting to engage with one another, especially for dogs like Raya who haven’t really learned how to properly engage with other dogs. This can sometimes lead to trouble in forms of unwanted behaviors and/or conflict with other dogs so we will continue to have these socials so that she can learn. While we can teach a dog a lot, sometimes the best teacher is another dog 🐾

Having two Xolos stay with us offers a great opportunity for learning!
Over the weekend we took Ryder into the local village of Catskill and the city of Hudson so that we can help better prepare him to the transition back home. During these walks we passed many scenarios that would have otherwise resulted in reactivity from him and we are so proud of his calm behavior for the entirety of the walk despite his environment.

Over the holiday weekend we brought Zeus with us down to the city as we visited family. He did such a great job settling in, respecting their home, staying calm around the other dog who didn’t care to interact with him, and even got his photograph taken! We did try to hunt down some dogs during our walk, but I guess no one else wanted to walk their dogs at that time 🥲
