**May I have your attention real quick**
Over the last 10 years I've seen so many dogs MENTALLY lost in fear, overcome by despair, and suffering from depression because they were abandoned. They feel love, abandonment, and hurt emotionally just like we do!
If you are planning on getting a dog please do your research on the breeds that you are considering. Make sure they match your lifestyle and activity level. Don't just get a dog breed because it's cute, free, or because you've always wanted one. This is one of the number one reasons dogs are rehomed π’
Secondly, dog ownership is NOT cheap nor is it a choice after ownership. You cannot purchase, or adopt, your dog and then throw it away after you've had it for 5 years like an old wardrobe that went out of style. It is a lifetime commitment and yes things change in life. However, you make it work!
Just because you lost your apartment, got laid off, or broke up with someone doesn't mean you get to abandon a child because you can't afford it. The same goes for your dog. If you are not willing to make this type of an agreement when you get a dog then you SHOULD NOT have a dog.
I do want to add that there are resources available like rescues, people, organizations, and businesses that may be willing to temporarily help you. We personally have donated to private fundraisers to cover medical expenses for other people's dogs.
So if you are considering dog ownership ask yourself the following questions:
*Am I willing to take care of this dog for the rest of its life?
*Am I willing to take care of this dog even when times get hard?
*Am I willing to take care of this dog even if I lose my job?
*Am I willing to take care of this dog even if I break up with the individual who was supposed to help me raise it?
*Am I willing to take care of this dog and choose a housing situation that allows my dog to stay with me?
*Am I willing to pay for all medical fees to take care of this dog even if it costs thousands of dollars?
*Am I willing to love and protect this dog as much as I do or would a child?
*Am I willing to pay for training so that my dog can live its best life with manners and obedience?
If you answered no to any of these questions you should seriously consider NOT getting a dog. PERIOD.
