🐴The secret is out! 🐴

The 2025 Horses of the Year are Icey and Mr.D!!!

These two play an integral role in our unmounted programming as well as our Mighty Minis traveling program. They have put in countless hours of grooming, visiting our elder communities, traveling to libraries and school programs and so much more. We are so honored that their owner has trusted us with their well-being and couldn't be happier to have them in our herd.

Please give this pair your well wishes and congratulations when you stop by the farm.

They will also be honored at our annual fundraiser, the Golden Apple Gala, on Saturday, September 27th.

☀️ Beat the Heat: Protect Your Horse During Heat Waves! 🐴

When the heat index climbs above 90°F, it’s time to slow down the riding. Here’s why:

🔬 Research published in the Journal of Equine Veterinary Science shows that horses begin to experience heat stress when the sum of the temperature (°F) and humidity (%) exceeds 150—and exercise in these conditions can lead to dehydration, heat stroke, or even death. 😓

🏇 So skip the saddle when the heat index is soaring! Here’s how to help your horse stay safe:

💧 Cool Tips for Hot Horses
1. Provide shade – Trees or run-in shelters are essential.
2. Unlimited water – Horses can drink 10–20 gallons/day in the heat.
3. Misting or hose-downs – Cool water, especially on large blood vessels (neck, legs, belly), helps lower body temp fast.
4. If the heat index lowers, ride early or late. Avoid peak sun (11am–4pm).
5. Electrolytes – Add to feed or water if sweating heavily.

👉 When in doubt, skip the workout. Your horse’s health is more important than training goals.
