IT’S FIELD FRIDAY… and raining…..so todays’ focus was socialization indoors.

Indy gets overwhelmed with excitement which leads to over stimulation. Every time is like his first time. We have been working on making the choice to check in, and practicing footwork to move away quickly and willingly when at threshold.

Bring out the leashes and take your dog for a walk, Fall is in the air.

Every Friday is a field trip and what an adventure today was. Today we worked on longline walking reinforcing “wait”, “come”, “sit”, “stay” with lots distractions- people, trails, creeks, smells….

Dogs are tired….

Did you know?

Dog bowls are a breeding ground for all sorts of nasties. Harmful bacteria and mould can quickly grow in your dog’s bowl and can easily make them, and you, very ill 🤒

Some of the serious bacteria that can grow in dog bowls:
🦠 E. coli
🦠 Salmonella
🦠 Listeria
🦠 MRSA

Biofilm is another risk, it’s a common slime that forms in dog bowls with the potential to poison your pets and your family ☠️

Preventing the growth of these nasties is easy! You should wash your dog’s bowl after every meal, especially if your dog bowl lives outside as there’s an increased risk of contamination 🧼

You could also use a ceramic or metal bowl as they don’t harbour bacteria as easily as plastic bowls so are a bit safer.

Shelter dogs take a lot of patience. Their true personality takes time to see when bringing one home. Understanding their behavior and having some tools to work with will help both human and dog adapt.

This girl was shut down.. took twenty minutes to get her out, after 45 minutes of building some trust her tail came untucked to wiggly and loose. I even got the bully “sploot”.

This guy is prone to darting. We are working long line recall as well as establishing loose leash walking , and keeping him in tune with me. It’s all about the foot work. Great job Indy.

Enrichment activities are just as effective as a walk. Using an Amazon box and paper stuffing. It’s as easy as tearing the paper, ball it up with a treat inside, put it all in the box and BAM… nose work.
