We have been breeding Australian Shepherds for about 14 years. Anyone who has followed us on social media knows that we treat our dogs like family. They have land to run on, a facility to keep them warm during cold weather, and A/C to keep them cool during warmer months. They chase birds by day and hang out with us for a good football game at night.
What happened with one of our eight-week old pups this weekend has us pretty upset. We have never had this happen before, so we are navigating new territory.
One of our pups was sold to an individual who abandoned the pup in the middle of the night in a business complex eight hours after purchasing the pup. After working with the Gilbert police and animal control (who were absolutely wonderful), the individual admitted to abandoning the pup.
The cause? We can only conclude that, as is normal for puppies separating from their mother, they cry at night for the first couple of days. It is short-lived, but it is a reality. We only wish the new owners would have called us instead putting this poor pup in danger.
We worked with Gilbert PD and the animal control to see if we could bring the puppy back home. This little guy has gone from our stable home to a lot of trauma over the last 48 hours.
Because we are no longer technically the owner, animal control informs that we have no “right” to him. It has been difficult to watch a pup we raised go through this.
However, the good news is he is apparently the most popular pup at the pound at the moment, and people are lined up to adopt him.
If anyone discovers whoever might adopt him, please have them reach out to us. We’d like to get them the ASCA paperwork and give them an update on the vaccinations, deworming, etc. We would love to help the new owners out in any way.
There is a SLIGHT chance we may receive the pup back. We are talking to animal control today. If you are interested in this little guy, please send us a message.
We are praying he ends up in the best home! He certainly did not deserve what happened to him over the weekend. What a precious pup that we will miss!
Lesson: Don’t adopt a puppy if you are not prepared to nurture him a bit through the separation phase.
