Ms Lucy had her second massage today. She’s definitely feeling better, her sassy side is back 😂 That’s a good sign.
Today I worked on Miss Lucy. Poor girl has had a rough few weeks. She had an abscess on her hind left hoof. Moderate pitting edema of both hind legs, and just all over tightness and misalignment from compensating with her right side to keep her weight off the affected foot.
She was so patient and loved every minute of our time together.
She received a full massage, myofascial release, red light and kinesiology tape.

Impromptu massage for this fella last night. He was doing great, until I got to his sore side. Then he was trying to bite me. He quickly learned Miss Cat doesn’t scare easily and I understand it’s a pain response.

Ever wonder why your horse may urinate during a massage?
Just as we do during and after a massage, horses release toxins as muscles are worked on and relaxed. These have to be excreted out of the body and that’s when urine comes into play. Many times we will see the horse 💩 as well due to increased stimulation and circulation as a result of the massage.

Today I had the privilege of working on Skipper. He was sore and tight in the poll, TMJ, shoulders, neck and pecs. His mom shared he was really sore and tender to touch on his left shoulder and was limping. When his massage was done he was so happy and running around. I love what I do, it was such a special treat for me to see him running happily 🙂
Second massage for Peppy today. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Boy had so much tension all over.

As an equine massage therapist, it’s important to teach my clients how to help their horses. The goal is avoid the use of unnecessary external aids and use the bond between horse and rider to guide them. I loved teaching my client today how to work with her horse on keeping her head low. Both are quick studies 😉
I was taught in my training to be aware of every aspect of the horse during massage. As minuscule as a change may seem, it’s significant. Here is an example of change in breathing pattern 😮💨 with the use of red light. This horse was having spasms in this area.
