I will be going through my books and mailing out invoices after thanksgiving if you have an outstanding balance. Please settle up with me before the end of the year so I don’t start out 2025 in the hole. If I have to start limiting my clients those who don’t pay their bill will be the first to go. Thanks for understanding.

💫Friendly reminder for my northern breeders and clients. Most of our mares are in the middle or close to it of their pregnancy right now which is a good time to get dental care done. If you haven’t already, after the first hard freeze it is a good time to deworm your mare with an ivermectin/praziquantel product such as Equimax or Quest Plus to take care of those bots and tapeworms.

💫This post is not for a vaccine debate but if you give rhino vaccines (we recommend Prodigy over Pneumabort brand) don’t forget about them at the recommended 5, 7 and 9 months. Be sure to double check your contracts as some live foal guarantees require certain vaccinations.

💫Pre-foaling deworming and vaccinations should be given 30 days prior to foaling. If they have a castlick in be sure to open it up around the same time.

💫Any mammary development prior to 300 days is considered premature bagging and should be treated as placentitis until proven otherwise. Contact your vet right away if you are concerned.

💫Outside mares coming to my place this year for breeding/foaling will be required to have at least a 5-way (eastern/western/tetanus/rhino/flu). I don’t recommend deworming, dental care or vaccines during the first 90 days of pregnancy so please plan accordingly.

💫As always, I am not a vet so please consult your veterinarian for a proper dental, deworming and vaccine schedule.

Believe it or not….foaling and breeding season is just around the corner. Here are a few things to remember:

✅ Most mares will start cycling normally here in northern Wyoming mid April! March to mid April is transition faze and yes they can visibly show heat but this doesn’t mean they are ready to breed.
✅ Older mares take longer to cycle normally, my older mares don’t settle well until June.
✅ If you want your mares to cycle sooner or have a little shorter gestation length they need to have artificial lighting.
✅ Artificial lighting must consist of 16 hours of light for 90 days. Example, if you want your mares to be ready to breed in March they need put under lights in December. A few weeks won’t cut it.
✅ Mares with too much body condition aka fat are more difficult to get in foal than a mare that is a little on the thin side. Don’t let your mares get fat.
✅ If you have an open mare, older mare or a problem mare Omega 3’s are the only thing proven to improve fertility. Omega 3’s improve uterine health, follicular activity and embryo quality. Add extra omegas 60-90 days before breeding season.
✅ Always provide quality forage, salt and loose mineral. We utilize and recommend Vitalize mineral.

One last thing, unless your mares have been under lights I won’t start checking them until April. It’s a waste of everyone’s time and money. I probably won’t be taking on very many new clients either as I am a one man show and don’t want to be too busy to not do a good job. I want your mares in foal as much as you do. 🥰

Thank you to everyone who trusts me with their mares and foals, here’s to a happy and prosperous foaling and breeding season in 2025. 🙌🏻🙏🏻🤞🏻

🌟 The Importance of Conformation, Movement, and Temperament in Selecting a Breeding Prospect 🌟

When it comes to selecting an equine breeding prospect, the decision is not one to be taken lightly. The future of your breeding program hinges on the careful evaluation of three critical factors: conformation, movement, and temperament. Each of these elements plays a vital role in determining the overall success and longevity of the offspring produced.

🔍 Conformation refers to the physical structure and appearance of the horse. A well-conformed horse typically exhibits balanced proportions, strong bone structure, and soundness in its joints. These traits are essential not only for performance but also for the health and longevity of the horse. Poor conformation can lead to a myriad of issues down the line, including lameness and decreased athletic ability. When selecting a breeding prospect, look for horses that exemplify ideal breed standards while also demonstrating functional athleticism.

🏇 Movement is another crucial aspect to consider. The way a horse moves can indicate its potential for various disciplines, whether it be dressage, jumping, or western riding. A horse with fluid, powerful movement is more likely to excel in performance settings. Observing how a horse moves at different gaits—walk, trot, canter—can provide insight into its athletic capabilities and suitability for your specific goals. Remember that movement is not just about aesthetics; it directly impacts performance and soundness.

💖 Temperament is perhaps one of the most overlooked yet essential factors in breeding selection. A horse's temperament affects its trainability, behavior under saddle, and overall suitability for various riders or handlers. Horses with calm, willing dispositions are generally easier to train and work with, making them more desirable as breeding prospects. Additionally, temperament can be hereditary; thus, selecting horses with good temperaments can help ensure that their offspring inherit these positive traits.

In conclusion, when evaluating potential breeding prospects, it is imperative to take a holistic approach that encompasses conformation, movement, and temperament. By prioritizing these key factors, you set the foundation for producing high-quality equine athletes that will thrive in their respective disciplines while also promoting soundness and good character.

Investing time in thorough evaluations today will yield significant rewards tomorrow! 🐴✨

I can’t stress this enough!!!! We feed a mix hay and test it as well and feed Vitalize and salt to everything!!! I do mix MSM in my mineral just to help with any kind of inflammation. My old horses with teeth issues get a forage pellet and flax oil for added fat. My horses have never looked or felt better. I can’t remember when I switched and stopped feeding all the grain but best decision ever.

Really good info before you book to a stallion!!!

It seems like booking every year gets bumped up for some reason and I don’t know if it’s just the industry, but definitely some things to consider….

👉Make sure to read your contract very thorough, read it twice, three times and keep a copy for yourself.
👉Make sure you are breeding to a horse with good semen, not just from the farm stating so. Ask around, it’s really no secret and this should be the highest concern on your list. If it’s frozen try to get info on that frozen dose itself. What was the post thaw, concentration in each dose, extender used, were the people handling it in and out of tanks following the “four second” rule, you can damage perfectly good frozen semen in a hurry! We keep all frozen semen documented on the nucleocounter, isperm, Androscope for any questions! Once it leaves our facility we sadly can’t guarantee anything. Many facilities are shipping frozen if they don’t have enough cooled, be sure to pay attention to that!
👉what’s the owner/stud farm like to work with? Make sure to do your research here too.
👉 What is included or not included in your stud fee? Chute fee, booking fee, office fee, rebreed fee, auction contract vs a regular contract, collection fee, shipping fee. You need to know these things!
👉Being prepared and knowing what you’re getting into is key for a successful breeding season. Doing your own due diligence with cultures and cytologies prior to breeding is also essential to maximize your results.

All stand at upstanding facilities that are fair, easy to work with and have great semen. We welcome any and all concerns 😊

💥💥Attention 2025 foal outs…please read!!💥💥

Now that breeding season is wrapped up I need to sit down and schedule foaling mares. I am not sure how many I will be able to take yet. So please comment or message me with your mares tentative “due date” so I can get this figured out before winter. I will try and go through my messages but there is a lot lol so if everyone please comment or message me.

Thanks for the incredible season!!!

A common misconception is that if a mare is a maiden she shouldn’t need a culture. Here is a great example of a young maiden mare who had a fully intact hyman whose culture showed up positive for Staph AND Enterococcus. She will be getting cleaned up and a castlick placed by the vet.

Moral of the story……culture your mares. I don’t care if they look great on ultrasound or if they are a maiden or this or that. It saves everyone time and money. 🙌🏻
