Barb Tardiff, Sammi Grzybowski (D & D K9 Dynamics/Decoy Sammi), and Jean Lyle (these three trainers have tracking skills ranging from blood tracking, police K9 tracking and AKC tracking titles)

When–JUNE 15-16 Saturday from 1pm until 5pm Sunday from 9am until 4pm. RAIN OR SHINE

Where–4088 Hardwood 23.5 Lane

Fee $125 for UPDD members, $150 for non members (1 dog 1 handler)

Spots are limited and a waitlist will be started for a second class once first class is filled.

Teaching the dog to follow a trail of a person to the end to find either a person or the article left by that person.

UPDD WILL SUPPLY WATER FOR BOTH DAYS.

“What’s the big deal mom it’s a piece of paper in a frame?!”-Nuke

This week local k9 teams along with Nuke and I went through National Association of Professional Canine Handlers certifications/recertifications! Certifying through a recognized certifying body is very important as it holds teams accountable for adequately performing their jobs!

Nuke and I successfully completed the full patrol dog test with our job emphasis being explosives detection and tracking!🐾

And with only about 2 1/2hrs of sleep last night, our last flight and this flight have been very welcomed nap times for us both.

Did today’s travel go as expected? No. Was I suppose to be back in the Midwest already and no longer in the South? Yup. Would I choose to have done so with any other partner? Absolutely not!

As I lay here trying to get a couple hours of sleep before shuttling back to the airport, I can’t help but to be so thankful for this dog! He never ceases to amaze me. After working for a week in hotter and more humid conditions than we ever have, he was still on top of his A game today during over 6 hrs at the airport with multiple delays due to mechanical issues and storms. The stress of being on the phone with airport staff for almost an hour resolving flight times and the numerous boarding delays were much more bearable with him holding steadfast at my side. Here’s to hoping there are no more adjustments to our flights and we actually get home this afternoon. One flight down, two more to go! ✈️

We’ve been keeping busy that’s for sure!😅 It was heartwarming to see the residents joy of getting to see and interact with all the dogs 🥰🐾 Love the awesome team we have at D&D and can’t wait for the next one!

As part of National Therapy Dog Day, we took some of our personal dogs on a therapeutic mission.

We were welcomed and visited the residents of Christian Park. The smiles and laughs made our whole day! All were so happy to see some furry friends in their hallways & rooms! We hope we brought a little joy to their day.

At D&D, we care about the community we live and work in. Giving back is so important!

Bear, Kelian, K9 Nuke, Pixie, Betsy, Sven, and Rip can’t wait for the next visit!!

Pictures. In training it’s important to expose your dog to a variety of situations and scenarios. Presenting as many different scene pictures as possible in training is crucial. The more variety we train, the better prepared a dog and handler will be in real life scenarios. It’s always better to over prepare for what you may encountered. For example, in building search training if we only ever have the decoy hiding behind the door, a dog may struggle to check elsewhere during a search. Think of it like ultimate hide and seek. We make sure there’s a variety of hiding spaces trained at various difficulty levels like under a bed, under a pile of clothes, in attic spaces, large boxes, refrigerators, cabinets, etc. And when we come across a new type of hiding space in a building, we have fun with it and take advantage like in this video. While helping at Fresh Coast K9, LLC‘s academy earlier this year, when myself and Antrim County Sheriff K9 handler came across this in floor hatch to access piping, we couldn’t resist incorporating it into training.

An upcoming work contract will require Nuke to wear protective footwear due to working on some toasty asphalt. His boots (Ruffwear) came in today so of course I had to document his first try on! 😂 Little bit of a rocky start relearning how to walk, but over all he caught on quick! Took a little time to chill today, and discovered Nuke is very intrigued by the Hulk…or it could have been the shooting…either way it was entertaining to watch his reactions during the movie!
