Happy Friday-eve (to all you 9-5-ers)!!! These past couple weeks have been so wonky and so weird. There has been so many issues and problems between our personal lives and our business. And, to be honest, both of those categories always combine into one. We try our hardest to please all of you, but being there is only 2 of us and so much stress we can both take, it is extremely difficult. So, we apologize to any and everyone that we have caused inconvenience with or for.

Unfortunately, our hours will be shortening starting next week. From now on, we will be open Thursday-Saturday: 11am - 7pm, Sunday: 3pm - 7pm, and we will be closed Monday-Wednesday.
We appreciate each and every one of your guys' support. Sometimes I wish we could do more for everyone when themselves or their pet is in need of something. We help the best we can, but I feel like sometimes it just isn't enough.

On a more positive note, we still have this gorgeous corn snake looking for a great home. She loves to be held and loves to be out, exploring her surroundings. She has been a long time, and she's getting tired of everyone telling her how pretty she is, and then passing her by. She is on sale for $130 in hopes someone will come and bring her to her permanent home.

Goooooooood afternoon everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful beginning of the holiday season! As we enter a new year, we would like to start to introduce new things to the shop! We have made contact with more distributors that can provide us with a wider spectrum of animals and products! One of the many options available are hedgehogs! I myself have a hedgehog, and it is so cool and fun! They aren't considered rodents or vermin and aren't very stinky or high maintenance at all. Of course, they are to be provided with the correct husbandry and love, but it is one of the claimed "easier" pets. I would like to know what the market is on these guys and if anyone would be interested in a hedgehog as a buddy! There are several other animals/reptiles/aquatics that we are looking into for the new year, but this one is just for a little dabbling.

Also, we have a few SALES going on until January 5th or while supplies last!!!

The first is with our Red Footed Tortoises. We have some tortoise houses that go along with these little guys! If you purchase the house AND the tortoise, you only will have to pay $350. Without this deal, you would be paying $450, so you save $100!!

The second sale we have is on our last cockatiel right now! She is originally $450 and is currently listed at $350! So, here you also save $100! Super sweet girl and has been ready for her new home for a long time now.

We have the sweetest baby corn snake you will ever meet!! She is a Sunkissed Cornsnake and is the most beautiful girl. She has got pinks, reds, and oranges all mixed into her pattern. She loves being taken out of her enclosure to explore the big world around her. She eats well and is growing well. She is looking for a good home, so if you were thinking about it... DO IT!!!☺️ Christmas is right around the corner.... she would make a great gift 😏🥰🫶

Noah and I are absolutely ASTONISHED with how many people showed up yesterday and came in to check it out. I have zero words for how crammed it was in our store from 5:30 to even past 8:00. We are BEYOND grateful!!! We definitely underestimated and did not make enough treats to go around, and will be preparing WAY more for next year. It was so much fun and we met so many people!!! Everyone was loving on Merdoc as he was flying around and landing on people's heads. I cannot thank everyone enough for coming in and supporting us. As great as yesterday was, I am excited for the next step where everyone comes in (not all at once this time, LOL) and Noah and I can have some real 1on1 talks with y'all, get to know EVERYONE, and give you guys some more experience with the animals here. Everyone was so great and we cannot wait to see everyone soon!!

It is ALMOST Turkey Day!!! I am sure everyone will be out getting together with family and friends (as will we). In result, we will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd for the celebration of Thanksgiving. But I'm sure all your little critters would ALSO love a Thanksgiving feast, just like you. So come on in tomorrow to stock up on all of their favorites! We have crickets, superworms, mealworms, and Dubia roaches all available right now!! I'm sure they would love to chow down and get fat for the Christmas season.

Speaking of, the Friday right after Thanksgiving is Old Fashioned Christmas in downtown Gladstone (right on Delta Ave - where we are located 😁). We will be open very late that night with treats for everyone! So, stop in, warm up, see our fun decorations we put up for you guys, visit all the cool friends we have, and get back on the road with a little snack! And tell your friends!!!! We don't want any of it to go to waste. 😆👍❤️

Happy Saturday everyone! Just a quick announcement: Noah and I will be out of town tomorrow and the shop will be closed. We are attending a reptile expo in Wisconsin. So we will be bringing back some reptiles and maybe some supplies for y'all to come look at and possibly purchase ;).

I also just wanted to thank every one of you. Noah and I wouldn't be here without any of you. None of this would be possible if you guys didn't decide to support two teenagers with some crazy dream. YOU are the reason we do what we love. We love all you guys for it. So, thank you. :)

Let's talk BIOACTIVE!!!
When housing any type of animal, I always let others know to research the animals natural habitat before you start getting dragged into the internet world of controversial topics on taking care of that animal. When you finish this research, most will agree that natural is the best way to go. A bioactive enclosure is a replica of their natural habitat. In the rest of the post, I will be explaining the process of creating one of these amazing enclosures. (If you aren't interested, just enjoy the pictures of Noah's amazing art work and skill at creating these environments.)
When you start any sort of terrarium, the first thing you will need is, of course, the enclosure. On request, we order PVC enclosures (many different sizes and shapes). These hold heat way better than a full glass terrarium. We also think they are better looking. ;) The next thing you'll need is substrate that fits the animal's needs. If it needs high humidity, we recommend coco fiber. If they require lower humidity, slate rock atop sand and clay is what we like to use. The next substrate that is required for bioactive enclosures would be leaf litter. This is part of an isopods diet. An isopod is a type of land crustacean that clean up larger animal waste. Though, these guys also produce waste. So the next thing that is required is a culture of springtails. A springtail is a type of anthropoid that clean up the isopods' waste and turns it into nutritious substrate. Nutrition in your substrate is always good for any type of animal that you are keeping enclosed. With these two in the terrarium, it is VERY easy clean up when you do clean the animal's enclosure. It is much less and much easier maintenance with these two simple additions. At this point, you can start to add live plants that are safe for the type of animal being housed. The plants will take the nutrients from the soil that is being produced by your isopods and springtails, and they will absolutely thrive. When all of these elements are combined, you have created a bioactive tank that is (almost) completely self sufficient. The only thing that YOU are required to do at this point, is make sure there is water in the enclosure for the animal to be drinking and to mist the tank to keep the humidity higher (IF it is a high humidity animal).
This is a lot of information and a lot of research that needs to be done. So, if you are unable to or cannot create one of these enclosures on your own but are really interested in it, well you're in luck! Your local pet store (AKA us...) puts them together (with a new enclosure or uses your current enclosure) to make it look 100% better than you could ever imagine! Noah has an amazing talent and passion for this expertise and would love to put it to use to make all of your enclosures look amazing at home.

Today we are putting the ball pythons in the spot light. These are the current pythons we have available. The first pictured is a desert ghost ball python. The second is a common wild type ball python. The third is a super pastel ball python. They’ve been on the lookout for their forever home for a few weeks.

I don’t think we’ve had a more loving bird in store! The lutino cockatiel that has been for sale here at Bayside Pets is the sweetest, goofiest, most amazing baby bird ever. She has been absolutely wonderful for us since the second we’ve brought her here. She loves to come out and cuddle! She is super friendly to anyone that comes and sees her. This little girl was hatched on September 1st of this year. So she’s almost 2 months old. She’s waiting for the perfect bird parents to come and take her home. 🫶

Shrimp will ALWAYS fascinate me. These are the Red fire shrimp that we have here at Bayside Pets. Shrimp are a great way to clean up your tank and rid it from algae. Some do it better than others, but when you have fun colored shrimp, it makes it that much better. 😁

These two especially sweet cockatiels are so excited to find their special home. The pearled cockatiel (left) was born July 11th and the lutino cockatiel (right) was born on September 1st. They are both super sociable and love to talk. ❤️

Here is one of our birds that got to go to its forever home ❤️ I got sent this video by the owner, and I was SO incredibly happy to see that this baby was happy and healthy in its home. I absolutely love getting updates on the animals we have sold to all of you. It always makes my day that our customers AND their pets are happier than ever. 🥰 This little birdy started saying “Peek-a-boo!” out of no where! Pretty cool if you ask me!
