Some lovely shots we got while working at the Fall Fiber Festival and Montpelier Sheep Dog Trials this weekend! This is one of our favorite trials to work when its available and the people that put it on are always very kind and accommodating. They work incredibly hard to bring the best trial experience for both handlers and spectators alike.

However, after having worked this weekend and taking time to think about future needs, we have come to the decision that starting January 1st we will be asking for $300 a day for our pen work services.

We came to this decision for a few reasons, but the biggest reason being this price includes both of us coming to work your trial not just one person. And no we will not do less than 2 people on a job. Having two people allows us to help keep the trial going in the smoothest fashion, we are able to cover each other in cases of any train wrecks, if one of us needs a break, if dogs need walked, if set out needs an extra person on field to hold sheep, etc. We have been in a variety of situations at trials over the years that without a second person could've led to a lengthy delay in trial.

Another reason for this decision is that Cedar and myself both work full time jobs and often have to use our PTO to cover working trials. Time away from regular work, is work we could be doing on our small farm and is valuable and something we have not been prioritizing as we should the past few years and with dogs of our own to train that time being valuable should be relatable to many of you.

We are sorry for any inconveniences this may cause and understand we may loose some buisness over our decision but we hope that you will understand and still consider our services in the future.

Beautiful Fall has arrived and it has been a very busy past two weeks for us at Magh Maell Acres!

Big Thank You's to Susan Rhodes at Keepstone Farm and Sam Furman at FrontRunner Farm for having us out to trim hooves for Flock maintenance. Both women were lovely company and we had a great time working with their sheep and hope to be back for regular maintenance!

We still have some dates open in November and December for trimmings, vaccines, or trial work so reach out to us soon to secure your appointments!

In light of wanting to be clear and transparent about our prices, we have made a price sheet of our services for our clients to reference. After some consideration we have made some slight changes to our fees from the past just to reflect with the growing expenses in today's times as all work we do goes back into growing our small farm. If we have already spoken for the year and agreed on prices those are still in effect any new jobs going forward will be using the prices listed below. We hope that you all understand and will continue to utilize our services

Fenn, heard you have trial dates for the new year and wanted to say this is your sign to reserve your dates and get a great pen crew on board to make your trials a success this year!

Get yourself a static crew with sheep handling experience, to take some of the stress out of your trial prep! We are booking dates for the coming and year and would love to be of service! We have experiece with many types of sheep and chute systems, are always respectful of you and your stock, and work quickly and efficently to prevent any types of delays. References can be provided.

We never stop learning and seeking out education opportunities for our farm so that we may better serve our community and think about things we might want to change at home. We had a great opportunity to branch out and get some hands on time with a type of animal we dont typically get to work with while having a great time at the Virginia Cooperstive Extensions Women's Cattle WISE Conference.
Some things we learned today were:
-Hoof and body scoring
- Low stress handling skills
-How to castrate, give, vaccines, and ear tag
- Reproduction health and considerations

Looking forward to going back tomorrow to learn about equipment, pesticides, and farm safety.

And like that a week has gone by in a flash and the 2024 USBCHA National Sheepdog Finals has come to a close congratulations to all the winners! We want to give a huge shout out to Shona O Kane and Jori along with their Horses Fancy, Jones, and Dunny and Dogs Oz, Preacher and Lassie for all of their help and hard work this week as our set out team. Thank you as well to all of the volunteers that came up and filled in when Kelsy and I needed an extra hand in the pens. We couldn't have done it with out all of you, you were all an absolute joy to work with!

We also want to thank Rebecca Gibson, Dee Bailes, and Nicole Bozich for putting this huge event together. Everything was phenomenal, and we appreciate all the hard work yall did to put this together for our sheep dog community

When we said "Quiet and Kind" we meant it! When we take on the task of being the pen crew for your Trials we understand that not only is it expected for the flow of the trial to be maintained and orderly, but also that the sheep used for the trial are well cared for and respected. We want our clients and their stock to feel comfortable with us and strive to maintain minimally advertise practices when working with animals

It's been a muddy mucky last couple of days here at the USBCHA National Finals, but these guys have been such lovely sheep to work with we haven't had a single issue besides some in general sheep naughtiness 😂 The handling system that we've have been using has been great as well easy to use and allows for you to move around in the system quickly and plenty of access points to pull sheep out if needed.

Not to mention our beautiful view of the trial field
