We are working on keeping a focus on crowded places!

ā€¢This is very important for service dogs to focus on their handler even in boisterous and crowded places, as they must concentrate and ensure they are ready to task at any time.

ā€¢If you are interested in applying for a service dog program, please message me for further information on how to get started!

I worked with Rhody and her handler Krista on leash manners, socialization and desensitization. Rhody is a wonderful dog who although can be hesitant about things can bounce back really fast and end up handling it like a pro! We are working towards making her a service dog in training for Krista and Iā€™m very impressed so far!

Hey yā€™all I know I have been MIA. I got a puppy and I have been very busy with him and working so sorry about that! I do have four openings for new clients so if you were interested please message me!

05/16/2022

Please forgive my absence. I am very sorry. I have a puppy coming very soon and my service dog got hurt not that long ago and itā€™s been very tough. I hope to just start taking clients again very soon. It just might take me a little bit.

03/20/2022

Hello! Life has been VERY hectic, I have a puppy coming home in June but Iā€™m also trying to keep up with work at the same time. Iā€™m only scheduling a limited number of clients so if you want to schedule I would do it now. We only have 4 spots left right now and then unless told otherwise I will not be taking any new clients. If instead please message me and again only 4 spots left!

Today Hailey and Shadow went to their first mall together! We worked on doing long downstairs, practicing staying in a heel and not getting to distracted by people. It was pretty crowded but Shadow and Hailey handled it like a chimp. Proud of them bothā¤ļø

ā€¢Another great training session with

ā€¢In this photo you can see that shadow is doing something called ā€œtuckā€ this is when a dog goes underneath a bench, handlerā€˜s legs and etc. this is to help to keep the dog out of the way so nobody trips over the dog and sometimes people donā€™t even notice the dog so less distraction! This is a very important command that every service dog should know and be able to do!

ā€¢This is Shadow, he is a service dog in training for his handler Hailey, he is training to be a multipurpose service dog. Today we had our first official training session at Walmart and it went amazing he did great, at the start and he was a bit vocal (heā€™s still a puppy so heā€™s very excited) but after he got adjusted and we did some training outside he did amazing the rest of the time!!

ā€¢Today Iā€™m going to discuss what balanced training is and why I choose to use balance instead of positive.

ā€¢What is Balance training? Well the simplest way of putting it is itā€™s a method of training that uses both reward based techniques and negative reinforcement. In other words, it shows the dog's choice and behaviors can result in either positive or negative consequences.

ā€¢I want to add that balanced training methods donā€™t work for every dog and thatā€™s just the truth, some dogs need only positive reinforcement or R+ (I will be doing a whole post on R+ in the future) every dog is different and every dog needs something different!

ā€¢I chose Balanced training because I've always had schnauzers and they are a stubborn breed and love to be the one in charge no matter what. When I got the dog I have now Deuce I could tell he was going to be a pain in the ass so I took lots of time and did lots of research and when I found balanced training methods I was hesitant but I wanted to try it. So I did and I got amazing results and we actually connected more after starting to do balanced training. Again Balanced training isnā€™t for every dog and thatā€™s ok but thatā€™s what works for my dogs and most of my clients!

ā€¢For all my clients and future clients I will always bring up balanced training methods and I hope that you at least try it if you havenā€™t beforeā¤ļø

ā€¢Today Iā€™m going to discuss the basic info and what a prong collar is and how to use it!

ā€¢I wanna start by saying prong collars ARE NOT abusive AT ALL, yes they can be used to abuse a dog and hurt them but thatā€™s rarely the case (from my experience)

ā€¢What is a prong collar? Well a prong collar or a pinch collar is a series of chain links connected to each other with the open ends facing the dog's neck. The prong collar is commonly used in beginner obedience or when teaching a dog to walk on a leash. It applies pressure all the way around the dog's neck when a correction is given. For example if you are in the heeling position and halt but the dog continues forward, the collar will tighten and self-correct the dog. This usually results in the dog stopping in the halt position. In this situation no additional correction is needed ā€“ not even a pull on the leash!

ā€¢How do I fit a prong? The prong collar needs to be fitted properly (second photo shows an example) to ensure you do not hurt the dog. It should be placed high on the dogā€™s neck just behind the ears and all the extra links should be removed so that it is snug to the neck, not drooping. A drooping collar can cause the dogs neck to actually get pinched and hurt the dog. It could also cause the dog to slip out of the collar which could hurt him/her as it is pulled over its head.

ā€¢How do I get started introducing the prong collar? This is the single most important step when training a dog with a prong collar. Many people make the mistake of putting the prong collar on and going to work right away. By moving too quickly, youā€™ll confuse or frighten your dog. Your dog needs to learn that a prong collar is nothing to fear. In fact, after just a few days, your dog will get excited any time you bring the prong collar out and will sit patiently with a wagging tail as you put it on. I always have the dog inspect the collar and reward when they interact with the collar and after a few times of that I put it on and just let them wear it.
After they get used to the feel of it I put the leash on and we start walking, if the dog pulls the collar will tighten and it will correct them.

Today one of my clients and I met up and I trained with her dog and let me tell you this dog has come such a long way from where he began! We still have a long way to go but this dog picks up on things so fast, right now we are working on not jumping, leash pulling, healing and being able to greet people without getting overly excitedļæ¼ļæ¼ļæ¼. Just wanted to share this video because it really shows how far he has come from where he beganā¤ļøļæ¼
