This is Brown Boy. Brown Boy favors Scotch and is the largest puppy in the litter. Brown is confident, inquisitive, responsive, energetic, sweet, and has already started swimming. One of my favorite things about Brown Boy is how much he loves to be with people. When I'm lounging with the pups, he is always there with me.
This is Yellow Boy. Yellow Boy favors Jada. He is always quick to play and first to get there; however, Yellow Boy is rarely alone and quick to follow others. He is already chasing movement and loves to play in the water. If he turns out anything like his momma, he will have 20' water entries. If he turns out like his daddy, he will enjoy romping in the icy waters of Colorodo. Yellow boy will need an active home and a job to suit his working drive. Should be about 65 lbs.

Last post for the day. I’m still pinching myself because I actually have a litter from Jada. I made a huge mistake and wasted a year of my journey with her. Thinking of spaying her and finishing our journey in obedience.
It did not take long for pups to begin demonstrating the process. Dogs are clean animals and instinctively will not soil where they sleep. I'm using this fact and manipulation of their environment to allow their instincts to emerge. These 17-day-old puppies are climbing out of their whelping nest to piddle and p**p in provided artificial grass. Dogs are amazing.

I naturally potty train every litter. It started as a way of making less mess. Now I see it as a must that makes my, the puppy's, and future family's lives easier. Puppies instinctively will not soil their nesting area so the first step is to separate the nest from the soiling area. With this litter, I'm trying artificial grass over a drain grate. So far, I like the grass better. No dust from dog litter is great cause all this is in the middle of my living room. 😳

Tuff loves watching tv. Lower Alabama Retriever Club hosting a double Junior double Senior. Tomorrow we will run a Junior test in morning and I’ll apprentice my first Junior level test in afternoon

Day 1 of proofing went super in the front yard. Our neighbor’s cats have made it their litter box. Needless to say there are lots of interesting smells about. Jada handled the distracting smells wonderfully.

Okay--so now you might be impressed. I know I am impressed at how smart Jada is. In four days Jada went from locating a tin containing food and two articles to locating the tin that had my scent on it. This is how it works: I have 4 tins--one has a pink dot on it and inside there are two articles and some food. I scented the articles, food, and the tin. Along with that, I have 3 more identical tins each containing food and two articles but I did not scent those tins. Day 1: The scented tin contains food and 2 scented articles. The other 3 tins contain 2 unscented articles but no food. Jada's task was to find the food. Day 2: Same as day one. Jada's task was to find food. Day 3: The scented tin contains food and 2 scented articles. The other 3 tins contain 2 unscented articles and unscented food. Jada's task is to locate the tin that has my scent on it. Day 4: Same as day 3 but Jada because super confident. I'm tellin ya--she could balance my checkbook for me. Between each rep I switch up the location of the scented tin. You can see the red dot that marks the scented tin. LOL
Today I moved Jada to the next level: Find the tin with my scent. The first repetition is review only one tin has food and my scent. After that, 3 of the tins contain unscented articles and unscented food—but unscented I mean I was careful not to touch them. Only 1 tin contains scented food, articles and my scent on the outside. I love how Jada works to figure it out. The look she was giving me—if she could talk, I’d bet she would ask, where is my hint? Enjoy….
Day 2 of teaching Jada articles. Right now I'm using a skill (finding food odor) to create a foundation to teach a new skill (finding my odor). Here is day two: Still working on the pattern of checking each tin for odor--going down the line. Tomorrow I'm going to begin using this pattern to teach Jada to locate my odor. At this point, there is no retrieval involved. Connie showed me how to do this.
I'm following a technique I learned from Connie Cleveland Nolan to teach Jada articles.
I hope the triple digit temps are finished. This morning Blondie began day 1 of 3 handed casting. She had a great time!
