Starting THIS Sunday, January 5th, weather forecasts indicate that it will hit below freezing temperatures. NOW is the time to come up with a plan for your pets and neighborhood street animals. Despite what you may think, animals are not able to withstand below freezing temperatures! Cold weather can kill stray animals.

Here are some tips to start a WINTER PLAN NOW:

The obvious first step is to bring your PETS INSIDE, however, if you find a stray animal in your neighborhood, and cannot possibly bring them inside, here are some tips that can help.

1. Purchase heat lamps from your local hardware store to provide warm heat for outside cats and stray animals.
2. Set up an igloo, dog house, or styrofoam/insulated cooler with straw (not hay) for stray cats to enter and stay warm. HAY IS NOT SAFE FOR COLD/WET WEATHER.
3. If you find a stray dog during the cold weather, please bring him/her home to stay with you for a few days. A small inconvenience for you can save a precious life. You can contact a local shelter/rescue after the cold temperatures to come up with a rehoming plan. It takes work but a life saved is always worth the inconvenience of your time and resources. Plus, the pet will always thank you in return. ❤
4. Check on your neighbor's and their pets. Remind your neighbors that all pets should come inside during below freezing temperatures.
5. Call local authorities if you find a pet outside during below freezing temperature. It's against the law.

If anyone else has tips to share, drop them below. We cannot reiterate this enough, TODAY is the time to plan ahead. We only have two more days before temperatures drop and plenty of homeless animals that do not have a safe place to go.

ISO BIG styrofoam boxes big enough for a cat to stand and move in. These can be donated by local Dr. Offices, bait shops, florist shops, seafood departments. These will be used for "Ginger Houses" to make winter homes for stray cats in nearby communities. "Ginger Houses" are in memory of all the stray animals we help during thr freezing temperatures each year.
