Ms Olive arrived a couple days ago to have her first litter! She’s 60 days today (63 days is the “due date”) and showing some very early signs of pending labor- she only ate half her breakfast and had a slight temp drop this morning- not enough to say tonight is the night yet, but its leaning that way! Stay tuned!

RIP little guy. Lost little man. Not surprised, but always sad. He was born not breathing and full of fluid. Freya’s other 8 are doing amazing.

Update for y’all.

It went a bit downhill after the first stillborn.

The original 8 are great. There have now been a total of 14, but only one of the last 6 was alive. 😔, and he struggled for quite a bit. He’s not out of the woods.

So there are 7 boys and 2 girls.

I’m 95% sure we are done. Freya has done great. While I’m sad for so much loss, nursing and raising 14 would have been quite the task for Ms Freya to keep up with.

Labor watch has officially begun! As you can see by her nose- she’s been digging. This is called nesting, and is a sign of labor. And her temp has officially dropped! Stay tuned! I think there are a lot of pups in there!

Xena’s boys are chowing down on mush!

After the Victor pet food recall, I switched to Diamond Naturals All Stages. I’m not sure that’s where I’ll land forever, but it’s working so far.

When I make mush, I add some dry dog kibble, pup formula, some NuVet powder and warm water in a blender.

They love it!

Yes, you can use a human breast pump on a dog! Colostrum is essential for the immune system for the first 48 hours of a puppy’s life! This can be frozen for future litters! I will be using some of this for one of Xena’s pups, who had a bit of a rough start. Being tube fed his mama’s colostrum has been a huge help in his continued progress.

Raising puppies must be such a fun job!
Well, parts are, yes!
But other parts involve snuggling up with a laboring mom instead of sleeping to make sure you are there for every single delivery.
This is Storm. Storm isn’t my dog, she belongs to Jett Dobermans. And bc she isn’t my dog, it’s especially important she learns to trust me while she’s here, so I can handle her pups and help her with her delivery without getting bit (that goes for any dog, not specific to Storm).

So here I lay last night. This is the approximately one hour of sleep I got last night before she started delivering. I think it’s safe to say she trusts me 🥰

Remi, from Phoenix Dobermans will be having her pups with me this week! She won’t give birth in this den, but will be raising her pups in here post birth, so she’s getting used to it in the meantime!
