Open wide! Did you know February is National Pet Dental Health Month?

Dental health problems can impact the overall health of your pet. Have you noticed a change in your dogs breath? Are they not chewing on their toys like they used to? Are they dropping food pieces while eating or salivating more than normal? These are all signs of dental disease.

How do pets get dental disease? Over time, the minerals in their saliva and food combine with the bacteria in their mouth and create plaque and tartar. This contributes to smelly breath and eventually tooth and gum disease. Most pets experience some level of periodontal disease by the age of 3 years old. Broken teeth, infected teeth and gums, and abnormal growths also cause dental disease.

Please be careful looking in your pets mouth as a painful animal may bite. If you are concerned about your pet's dental health, we can evaluate their dental health and recommend the proper treatment as well as at home care to help prevent further issues.
