Hi all!!! Thank you all so very much for all the donations!!! It was so incredibly helpful! We were able to stock up for the week!
* Here is a picture of Nala in her new medium-sized wheelchair. It is set to the smallest settings, so she has plenty of room to grow! She is doing so well! π
Ok! After being sick and several big events, I am finally able to tell you about this little girl. I was contacted by a man that his goat had triplets and if I could take one of the triplets. This is the man that takes the babies to the auction. :( I immediately said 'Yes' and I took the little boy. About 3 days later the man said the little girl wasn't doing well and asked if I would like to take her too. When I arrived for the little girl, I thought she was dead. She was laying motionless on the ground and she felt cold to the touch. She was so cold, that the thermometer couldn't read any temp. So guessing about 90. I honestly didn't think she would live. I called my Tahoma Veterinary Hospital and asked what they thought. They said to bring her right in! Long story short, she is doing AMAZING!!!! Thanks to the quick help from the Dr's and the nurturing care of her foster mom, Lexie. ( I was also able to get the mom and the third baby to save them from the auction and placed them into a wonderful home.)
So here is Suki and her brother Winston living their best lives!
All the babies doing so very well at foster mom extraordinaire's home!
Here is a video of her. My other post wouldn't let me put a video in with pictures. And just a reminder, Nala has back leg paralysis due to being pulled so hard from her being a breech birth. She was stuck, and the vet had to pull hard to get her out. And my wonderful Foster extraordinaire, Lexie, is doing the most amazing job with her!
Little girl is doing surprisingly well considering how bad her pneumonia is. She is alert and bright and eating well. The problem is that she can't eat or drink too much at a time due to the pressure it puts on her lungs. (Goat anatomy). But she munches on alfalfa all day long, and I offer small amounts of drink every hour. Plus she is getting sub-q fluids. Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. Her cough sounds terrible. :( And she is soooooo skinny. I named her Hope, since her story is all about hope! β€οΈ
Hello all! I have, just this past week, come across two cases of very malnourished goats due to improper feeding. Goats MUST, above all else, have good quality hay given fresh every day. So many people don't realize this. Some very common misconceptions I have come across are as follows: that goats are grazers and therefore they can be 'lawnmowers' and live off just grass. Or that they dont need to be given hay everyday because they don't eat it all. Or that goats don't need salt and minerals and clean water.
I try to educate people on goat nutrition and goat care. If you come across anyone thinking of getting some goats, please send them my way. I give free one-on-one "all things goat" classes to anyone considering getting goats.
Lambies are doing so well! They have been adopted and are loving their new life! π₯°
While I have been recovering from being sick, the house goats have been at the baby-sitter's. She couldn't figure out how the babies were all diaperless after napping in their playpen. Then she caught the naughty one in the act! Ha! This little girl learned how to take everyone's diapers off while they were sleeping!!! π€£π€£ Goats are so naughty and smart! That's why I love them!
As you know, I work outside of the home on Saturdays to help with the cost of hay. I'm so grateful I have a job that allows me to bring the babies! β€οΈ
I love ending the day with the babies! π₯°π₯°π₯°
These two crack me up! Turkeys are so much fun!
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Well, this is the Bad. I'm pretty certain that this is Orf aka Sore Mouth. It is what Sadie had. Sadie came to me with it August first... now here it is middle of December and it is resurfacing. Uugghhhh. Sunsplash must have rubbed on something that was contaminated. Well, I'm pretty certain it will go through my whole herd at this point. I consider this to be part of The Bad, and not The Ugly, because although it is terribly inconvenient, for the most part it's not fatal. It is really only fatal if a goat is immune compromised already.
I spy with my little eye. π
Tom says, "Happy Thanksgiving"! π¦
Update on Sadie: I am pleased to say that after 3 months of quarantine, she is finally able to go out to pasture with the others!!! She had the worst case of Sore Mouth (aka Orf) I have ever seen. She literally had lesions for 3 months! She is now 100% recovered and she doesn't know what to do with herself, since quarantine is all she's known in her short life. Dr. recommends keeping her on a bottle longer just to give her body an extra boost. I'm not complaining! LOL
I have an urgent request!!! This is one of my bottle babies from 2 years ago that I had adopted out. The man who adopted her called me yesterday and asked if I wanted her back, as she had lost weight and become ill. Of course I said ,"Yes!"! I took her straight to Tahoma Veterinary Hospital where they so graciously are taking her in as a drop-off urgent care. It's going to be expensive and I need all of your help! If you could call the vet and put money on my account for her, I would be ever so grateful! She is a sweet, young girl and I believe there is hope for her. Just have to figure out what's going on. Thank you all! β€οΈ
Jelly Bean is doing so well!
