National Dog Day celebrates the goal for all dogs to have a happy life. This day is also used to raise awareness about adoption opportunities. Celebrate your own personal dog today by giving them lots of extra praise, a new toy, or having a new adventure! If you are able, consider ways you can contribute to your local rescues.

🤦‍♀️ PHONES ARE DOWN 😔

Midco phone/internet problems have struck us again. Please have patience with front staff as we are using the clinic cell phone which only allows 1 call at a time to answer.
So very sorry for any inconvenience ❤️

It's HOT! Just a few reminders to keep your pets safe during the heat.
1. Pavement heats up quickly. Check the temperature with your hand. If it's too hot for you to rest your hand on it, then it's too hot for paws. Pets can suffer burns and blisters from hot sidewalks.
2. Brachycephalic breeds have a very difficult time cooling themselves on the best of days. If you have a flat faced friend (think Pug, Bulldog, Frenchie, etc.), keep them inside during the warmest times of the day.
3. Exercise should be done during the early morning hours or very late in the evening when the sun is low in the sky and the air temperature is cooler. Most of our furry friends will play until they collapse, so it's up to you to protect them.
4. Keep your pets in the air conditioning with lots of cold water available. Short breaks outside to potty and then back indoors. If you have to be outside, keep them in the shade with lots of water and minimal exertion.
Let's keep our fur friends safe and cool!
Love,
Dr. Lord

April is National Heartworm Awareness Month. Heartworms are spread by mosquitoes and heartworm disease has been diagnosed in all 50 states. Prevention is safe, effective and cost-effective. Your dog should have a heartworm test once a year to determine if they became infected with heartworms during the previous season.
The recommends year-round prevention for dogs and cats in the U.S., even in regions that experience cold winters. Heartworm preventives work retroactively, so an animal that acquires an infection one month must be given heartworm preventives in the months that follow to be protected. And with unpredictable weather patterns and the ability of hardy mosquitoes to survive in protected areas—as well as indoors—it’s difficult to predict when heartworms aren’t in season.
Fortunately, heartworm prevention is highly effective when given faithfully, and the year-round cost of preventing the disease in dogs is a small fraction of the cost of heartworm treatment.

If you have not already, we recommend starting your pets flea/tick prevention now!
If you are really eager you can start them on their heartworm prevention too! 🦟If not, we recommend you start that no later than June 1st as those mosquitoes are nasty little buggers!

Not sure what preventative is best suited for your fur-baby? Give the clinic a call or stop in. One of our educated employees are more than happy to help you!👩‍⚕️
Don't forget that your canine needs an ANNUAL and NEGATIVE heartworm/tick test to continue heartworm prevention!
