You may have heard us mention our “sanctuary dogs” in the past. These are dogs that for one reason or another, will never be able to safely acclimate to a traditional home. However, once a dog enters our rescue, WE are their home no matter how long it takes; even if that means forever. 💛

We have 7 sanctuary dogs at the rescue right now: Timmy, Stan, Kyle, Wendy, Britney, Gamora and Admiral. Some of them came to us feral, some came from a life of abuse, and some struggle with reactivity issues for reasons we may never know. But they all have one thing in common, the rescue has become their safe place and it will be their sanctuary for as long as they need. 🐶✨

Being a sanctuary dog does not mean they are forgotten! Not one of our sanctuary dogs spends their days alone. Some spend their days in the yard with other rescues and daycare dogs, and some are paired into smaller socialization groups with 2 - 4 other pups! They receive daily love and affection from our trained staff in a way that avoids stress and allows them to feel in control. 💛

Each one of these dogs has made extensive progress towards conquering their fears and we will continue to help them every step of the way. If you would like to sponsor one of our sanctuary dogs by making a monthly donation towards their care, please visit the “donate” page our website happylittlerescue.com or click the link in our bio to learn more. 🐶💛

Let’s reminisce on all the cute and goofy stages in Yoda’s life shall we? To be honest, he never really went through an awkward phase, this guy has always been handsome! ✨

He arrived at the Happy Little Rescue with his sister Padme when they were just puppies. Yoda has always been a little bit shy, and as he’s gotten older he has started to develop some fear reactivity. Yoda is a total ham and LOVES people, he just needs a little one on one attention to help him learn that he is safe. We are currently looking for an experienced foster that can help Yoda feel secure and work through some of his fears.🥹

Do you want to make a difference in the life of an extremely deserving dog? If so, please share Yoda’s story with your dog knowledgeable friends. We know that there is a person out there with the time to help Yoda reach his full potential! 💛🐶

Today’s adoptable besties are Yoda, Bobbi and Moose! These three have bonded over their big, bouncy and playful personalities. They keep us laughing all day with their antics! 🤪💛

Bobbi is looking for an active home that can take her hiking, camping or trail running! Although she doesn’t love meeting dogs on leash, when she is off leash she loves the company of other pups. She would make a great addition to just about any home! 💛

Yoda is looking for an experienced foster home to help him gain confidence so that he can find his perfect match! This guy loves other dogs, but will need a foster home that has no young children. 💛

Moose is a small Bluetick Coonhound who LOVES people, kids and other dogs. Moose’s only quirk is that, well, he’s a hound dog! This means he’s very passionate about singing and must go to a home with no small animals. 🐶🎶 Do you have hound dog experience and looking to add a perfect pup to your family? Then Moose is your guy! 💛

Do you know anyone that might be a good fit for these wonderful pups? Please share this post and help these long-time residents find their people! 🫶

Guess who’s getting bigger🥹 Almond and her pups are happy, healthy, and available for meet and greets!

This sweet little family has been living in foster care for the past 4 weeks. We are so grateful to their amazing foster family for taking them in, but they are ready to find their perfect match!

Right now we are looking for fosters or fosters-to-adopt until the puppies are fixed. Remember that foster homes always have first priority if they choose to adopt!

If you are interested in sharing your home with one of these little ones, please call the rescue and leave a message with your information. We will get back to you as soon as possible!💛

You may recognize this gorgeous girl. This is Gamora, one of our resident sanctuary dogs.

Gamora came to the Happy Little Rescue almost 6 years ago with her litter mates! Unfortunately, after several attempts to acclimate Gamora to a traditional home, we came to the tough decision that life outside the rescue was simply too stressful for Gamora’s fear reactivity.

Although this is never the outcome we want, everyone at the Happy Little Rescue absolutely loves Gamora and we shower her with love every chance we get! She feels comfortable here, which allows her to relax and show us her true personality. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide her a sanctuary where she can still live a fulfilled life, playing other dogs and experiencing love and security.

Gamora’s home may not look the way other dogs’ do, but she will always have a home that loves her unconditionally💛

Fireworks can be scary for pets. Let Chow Down Pet Supplies Inc. help prepare you for a safe summer!

Fireworks can be frightening to dogs because of the loud bangs, the flashing lights and unpleasant strong smell of spent explosives, which may lead to your dog trying to run away when frightened by fireworks.

Tips for keeping your dog safe:
~ Keep them inside your home (even fenced yards may not be efficient)
~ Give them a safe place to be such as a comfortable space or crate
~ Use ambient noise to mask the fireworks such as a radio or tv
~ Be sure their IDs are updated and have microchips (just in case)
~ Stay home with your dogs (your presence can make all the difference)
~ Keep them busy by providing toys they enjoy chewing to help with distracting them.

𝑪𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝑫𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝑷𝒆𝒕 𝑺𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒔 has calming treats that may also be helpful for your pups - check your local store as products vary by location.

Drumroll please🥁 Facebook, meet Buzz!

This senior poodle is the ULTIMATE lap dog! He has no problem jumping right up onto your lap and snuggling in for hours. He is good with other dogs but can be a bit of an attention hog😜

Despite his age, he is in good health and still has the energy for short walks followed by cuddles💕

Send us a message today to meet this sweet older guy, you won’t regret it!

We hope to see you all there!😀 But if you can't make it to the event, stop by for a slice of pizza any day during the month of June and a portion of your sale will go directly to the Happy Little Rescue!

This post is dedicated to the besties🐶💕🐶

The only adoptable pup pictured here is Twerk, our silver lab! But all the other pups pictured are Happy Little Rescue alumni who are back for boarding or daycare🥹 We are so grateful that our past rescues still come back to see us!

See the black lab mix on the top left? That’s our pup Yoda’s sister! Sometimes daycare even includes a family reunion🥹

✨Staff Spotlight✨ Instagram meet Bailey!

Bailey is a Junior studying Cellular, Molecular and Developmental Biology at CMU🔬 When she graduates she wants to become a Neonatologist that works with Premature infants!

Before officially becoming part of the team, Bailey managed to volunteer multiple times a week and just about every single weekend for 7 months, despite her tough class schedule!

Her favorite part of working at the rescue is helping with events or naming the new pups that we get in. You can thank her for naming Almond’s pups, our flightless bird litter!👏🏻😂

She loves going home to visit her family pets, Pooper🐱and Deirks🐶, and her favorite dog at the Happy Little Rescue is Koda! Their love story is one of our favorites 🥹

It’s safe to say that Bailey brings something truly special to the rescue, and we could not be more grateful to have her on the team💛 We love you Bailey!

Rescue work can be HARD and emotionally taxing.

As many of you know, there is a cat overpopulation crisis happening in Mesa County. Every rescue and shelter is doing everything they can, but most of us are out of space. It is during times like these that we turn to the community for help.

Today was almost a tragic day for a little kitty. We sadly had to turn away someone who wanted to surrender a kitty due to a lack of space and available foster.

15 minutes later, a volunteer brought in that same kitty who had been left outside in a carrier, baking in the sun. Lucky for everyone, that same volunteer offered to take the kitty home to foster and potentially adopt!

Rehoming pets is tough. Limited resources can cause people to feel desperate and make decisions they would not normally make. We are happy to work with all animal advocates, both individuals and agencies to do everything we can to provide resources and help find a solution. 💛 At the end of the day, we ALL want what is best for all pets.

If you are able to adopt, foster, sponsor a cat spay/neuter, TNR (trap, neuter, return) a kitty, we need you now more than ever.

You can visit our website happylittlerescue.com for donation options and foster applications.

[EDIT: All of these pups have secured a foster home!💛 thank you all!! ]

Calling all FOSTERS💛 these little ones are trying to find their perfect match in Grand Junction, but we can not bring them to the Happy Little Rescue without a foster home lined up!

They are dog friendly, sweet but a little shy, they know basic obedience, and they even know how to give “fist bumps” with their little noses🥹

Do you have room in your home for a temporary foster pup? We provide everything you need! Food, toys, a kennel, support🐶 All you need to provide is love and safe place to sleep🥹

Adoptable GOOFBALL Alert!🚨

This is Koda! He is 2 1/2 years young and as the caption implies, a total goofball🐶💛 In honor of his spotlight today, we decided to share the many faces of Koda.

This Akbash mix is a sweetheart who loves people and other dogs outside of his home. He is an LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog) which means he was bred to protect herds of livestock from predators! Although Koda has not been trained on a farm, these breed specific traits are still very visible in his personality. How cool is that?!

He is fiercely loyal and has strong impulses to protect the ones he loves💛 You could say that since he has never had livestock to protect, he treats his family as his herd! Because of this, Koda is looking for a family with no other dogs or kids in the home.

But don’t let that fool you! He loves to meet new people out and about, and spends a great deal of time around town with volunteers😍

Do you think Koda might be the perfect fit for you? Send us a message today to set up a meet and greet!

✨Sponsor Highlight.. Chow Down Pet Supplies Inc.✨

To be honest, a Facebook post doesn’t leave us with enough space to thank Chow Down for all the many ways they support the Happy Little Rescue💛 From hosting adoption events, to donating supplies, to sponsoring groomings, to helping us keep the lights on when things get tough, the list goes on! We truly could not do what we do without their unwavering support.

Here are a couple of recent Happy Little Rescue adoptions, Eddie and Mags😍, with their new families holding their Chow Down goodie bags donated to help make sure each adoption starts off on the right foot!💛

Chow Down Pet Supplies, thank you for all you do. Not only for the Happy Little Rescue, but for ALL rescues. We couldn’t do it without you.
