The Golden Belt Humane Society is currently seeking responsible individuals to fill both full time and part time Kennel Technician positions.
**Kennel Technician Requirements
1. High School Diploma or completion of G.E.D. equivalency
2. Must be at least 16 years old.
3. Must have reliable transportation
4. Provides and models timely, polite, and respectful internal and external customer service regardless of the circumstances.
5. Have no allergies to animals or chemical cleaning agents.
**Daily sanitizing is required to help prevent the spread of disease.
6. Administer injections, medications, microchips and give baths to all animals.
7. Basic knowledge of Windows-based computer software and the Internet, use of a copy/fax/scanner machine, microchip reader.
8. Proven ability to work independently; strongly self-motivated and team oriented.
9. Must be able to lift 50-75lbs, alone and/or with others.
10. Standing for long periods of time, bending, kneeling, walking, running, climbing stepstools and ladders.
11. Ability to work in all types of weather with appropriate attire.
12. Understand completely that working weekends and evening checks is crucial for the animals and adopters.
13. Must be able to multitask in a fast paced environment
Preferred:
1. At least one year of experience in the veterinary hospital, animal shelter, animal behavior, or kennel experience.
2. Knowledge of basic animal handling, behavior and health.
3. Experience working for a non-profit organization.
4. High School Diploma, associate's degree in related field/s.
Physical Demands & Administrative Type Work Environment: Work is performed in a kennel environment with regular exposure to high noise levels, chemical cleaning agents, animal dander, and wet floors. Susceptibility to the elements when working outdoors. Exposure to potentially aggressive and dangerous animals, potential animal bites and scratches. The work environment requires walking, standing, bending, scrubbing, mopping, wiping, using a squeegee, dusting, laundry, and reaching up to 8 hours a day and lifting up to 50-75 pounds without assistance. Daily duties require reading and following instructions, using a computer workstation, data entry of animal details, medical notes, vaccines, tests, and behavioral documentation. Ability to answer phones, answer questions related to animal ordinances for the City of Great Bend and Barton County residents, ability to greet and work with customers for potential adoption of animals, ability to work alongside Board Members, Volunteers and Community Service workers.
Unusual Demands
Workers may be subject to emergency callbacks. Employee may be subject to work beyond normal scheduled hours, weekends and holidays.
