Dear Valued Distributors and Customers,

We understand that recent headlines about Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), specifically the H5 strain, have raised concerns. This strain has affected wild birds and, in some cases, led to infections in U.S. poultry and dairy cows. We want to assure you that we are actively working with our suppliers and closely monitoring the situation to maintain the quality and safety of our products.

In response to our recent inquiries, many suppliers and their representatives, including Directors of Food Safety and QA, have provided detailed information about their Avian Influenza safety measures, testing protocols, mitigation procedures, and response plans. These efforts not only comply with required standards but, in many cases, go above and beyond to ensure their products are safe and free from HPAI. This is a critical benefit of sourcing from reputable, human grade, USDA inspected suppliers.

Here’s some additional information to help qualify the issue by the proteins in question:
Pork: There are currently no known outbreaks impacting pork.
Beef: The infections are limited to some dairy cows, and we primarily source steer beef, which is not currently impacted. The dairy beef we do source is from states with currently no reported cases of HPAI.
Poultry: as with all our major proteins we only source human-grade poultry from USDA-inspected facilities. The suppliers and facilities we work with are a small but trusted network that adhere to stringent testing and compliance procedures to ensure all birds are “certified H5/H7 clean” before reaching their harvest plants.

Bottom Line:
Historically, these spikes in HPAI have aligned with wild bird migratory patterns and remain relatively isolated as the procedures in place serve to isolate and minimize the spread. At this time, we have no evidence that our supply chain has been affected. We will continue to engage with our suppliers, monitor the situation closely, and update you if anything changes.

Good info. Sterilization can be done without detrimental effects to long-term health. Know your options.

Remember no one is arguing the need for sterilization, it's the surgical technique that should be reevaluated. Hysterectomy and vasectomy achieve the same goal but leave important hormones intact according to science.

"The association between gonadectomy and timing of gonadectomy, and the risk of canine cranial cruciate ligament disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract
Objective - To determine if gonadectomy in dogs is associated with the risk of cranial cruciate ligament disease (CrCLD) and to quantify the magnitude of the association.

Study design - Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Sample population - Comparative studies with gonadectomized and entire dogs, with CrCLD as an outcome measure.

Methods - A systematic search of the primary and gray literature was performed. The effect size of the outcome measure was defined as the OR and 95% CI. Subgroup analysis was performed with s*x, breed, and age at gonadectomy. A pooled OR (95% CI) was generated from meta-analysis of relevant studies. Certainty in the body of evidence was rated with the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

Results - The literature search yielded 1398 results and 24 relevant studies were included for synthesis. Gonadectomized female (pooled OR = 2.293, 95% CI = 1.768–2.945) and male (pooled OR = 2.117, 95% CI = 1.665–2.691) dogs were both at increased odds of developing CrCLD in comparison with entire female and male dogs, respectively. Subgroup analysis showed that gonadectomy at 1 year or less was consistently associated with an increase in odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes. Overall certainty in the evidence was rated as moderate. All included studies were observational and no controlled trials were available.

Conclusion - In data with moderate certainty, gonadectomy is associated with increased odds of developing CrCLD in both s*xes, particularly in dogs gonadectomized at 1 year of age or less.

Clinical significance - This study provides an estimate of the true effect size of gonadectomy on the odds of developing CrCLD, which may be useful for clinical decision making surrounding gonadectomy and the timing of gonadectomy."

Adulteration Math: The lower the adulteration score, the healthier the food for your dog.

The Forever Dog- “Good: previously processed ingredients blended together, and heat processed once (many dehydrated foods).

Better: raw, fresh ingredients blended together and freeze-­ dried or high-­ pressure pasteurized (HPP), as well as raw fresh ingredients blended together and no-­ heat or low-­ heat processed once (many raw meat dehydrated foods and gently cooked foods).

Best: raw, fresh ingredients blended together and served, or frozen (no heat process) to be eaten within three months (homemade food, commercial frozen raw food).”

Pork Recipe upgrades! ❤️😁 For those asking about a switch to cod liver oil in the other formulas, see pic in comments. Also, the sunflower oil is cold pressed, so it is a healthy oil as well.

***Better organ diversity: The pork recipe will now have pork liver AND pork kidney.

***Sunflower oil will be replaced with cod liver oil: We promise to only use premium (food grade), well-sourced cod liver oil. Also, for those concerned about Vitamin A content - the new Pork Recipe formulation will be 5X below the AAFCO maximum for Vitamin A content.
