Storm is featured today on when she strutted in for her staple removal 2 weeks after nearly losing her life!
She was sick with vomiting, not eating, and vaginal discharge on a weekend and went to our local emergency hospital and was diagnosed with a pyometra. This is a life threatening emergency that needed emergency surgery after immediate stabilization. She was severely dehydrated from the vomiting and had significant changes on her lab work.
She was given a poor prognosis but was a fighter through surgery without any complications and recovered like a champ! We were so happy to see her when she came in for a staple removal 2 weeks after her emergency surgery.
It is very important to spay your female pets (some breeds we do recommend waiting until they are full grown) to avoid this life threatening emergency. Pyometra is a risk more commonly in older females but can happen to younger ones like Storm who was only 6 years old. We have treated one as young as 3 years old before!
