What're the Odds Rescue We don’t simply want to adopt an animal to just a home, but their everlasting one.

At WATO Rescue, we strive to ensure each animal that makes a pitstop to us on the road to their destined home is perfectly matched.

We need your help.

This is Dottie, and she is looking for someone that will take a chance on her.

Dottie was born in a home, to a feral cat, and has only known life indoors. She is almost 2 years old, loves other cats, is fine with dogs, but is very wary of people. Although socialized through kittenhood, Dottie clung to her feral mother, Petunia, and in doing so, learned that you don't have to socialize with people if you don't want to.

You see, Petunia came to us while pregnant. She was feral, but we were determined to give her a safe place to give birth, with the intention of releasing her back to her safe place after being fixed. Unfortunately, after she gave birth, the previous caretakers of Petunia let us know that they didn't want her back, and wouldn't provide food, shelter, or care for her in anyway. This led to today, where Petunia is still with us, and Dottie has since started to follow in her footsteps.

Dottie and Petunia are both comfortable around people to a degree, although they actively avoid being touched at all costs. With the other kittens and cats in our care, we cannot provide the time or space needed to dedicate to their socialization, which has led to the current circumstances of Dottie now not wanting anything to do with people, and Petunia encouraging the behavior, as they have learned that they don't have to interact with us if they don't want to.

Due to this, we are looking for someone who can commit to trying to help Dottie learn some socialization skills. Of course we'd love if that meant the person who steps up for her fell in love with her and wants to formally adopt her, but we understand that may not happen. We just want to give Dottie a far shot at learning that humans aren't bad, and to show her how good life can be. Dottie's siblings were all shy regarding humans, too, but were adopted at a much younger age, and learned quickly that people weren't scary. Because Dottie was overlooked as a kitten, it seems like she started to grow more comfortable with her fear.

If you are willing and able to give miss Dottie girl a shot at learning how to be brave, please reach out to us. She is such a smart, sweet, and curious girl when it comes to her cat friends, toys, birds, etc., but she needs a little help on the people front. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, and FIV/FELV negative. We just want to do right by Dottie, and see if we can beat the odds against her.

Please share to help Dottie’s people find her!

Giving Tuesday is here and we could not be more grateful for all of the support we’ve received this year!

Another year has gone by, and more babies have been helped because of you. Winnie, Pumpkin, Squash, Sprout, Goose, and miss blind Rae! We know there are so many wonderful rescues and charities to donate to, but we do hope that you’ll consider us as well. We simply could not help these babies without you. We are so happy that our community loves these guys as much as we do, and we cannot wait to continue changing lives.

All ways to donate are listed below. $1, $5, $10 - it all makes the world of difference!

Miss Pumpkin wanted to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving yesterday, but was too busy snoozing after eating all her treats! 🦃😴

She, Squash, and Sprout are all feeling SO much better. Squash’s fever has gone down and he’s back to prancing around with his siblings. We’ll be keeping an eye on them just to make sure everything goes the way it should!

We are so thankful to everyone who shares, adopts, donates - supports! - us in any way, shape, or form. It takes a village to shift the odds to be in favor of the babies we help, and we are glad to have the support that we do. When everyone comes together, there isn’t much we can’t do. Thank you a million times over.

We thought we'd get to introduce you to the beans before we needed help, but they surprised us like always!

Meet Pumpkin, Sprout and Squash. These little ones had a tough start to life (which will come in a later post) but were doing SO well with some much needed TLC. Then, they all seemed to decline last week. On Thursday (11/21), Pumpkin started limping and progressively got worse as the day went on. We got her to Stone Ave vet since our regular one couldn't fit her in, where we did an X-ray to confirm she didn't have any injuries (whew!). She did, however, have a fever of 103! We put her on some antibiotics since it was clear her little body was fighting something, and got her scheduled for a recheck with our home vet. When we got home, Sprout started doing the same thing! We started the antibiotics on him to be safe. Come Saturday (11/23), Squash started limping and was running a fever, as well. Apparently, he wanted to see a doctor, too!

On Monday, we had our visit at Poinsett Animal Hospital to have the babies rechecked. Pumpkin and Sprout were feeling much better, and their fevers were gone! The limping had minimized and they were back to their usual spunky selves. Squash's fever was 104 and he was still feeling cruddy, so we got more medicine and added on another one to help him feel better. He's feeling better and is doing well other than having a fever of ~103 still. He's getting extra TLC and will be seeing the vet again if his temperature continues to stay high.

In just a few short days, we spent $331.27 on the vet visits for the little ones. If you'd like to donate towards these visits, the bills will be attached and all ways to donate will be below. We are so grateful the babies are feeling so much better; we'd move mountains just to get them the care they needed. We couldn't provide them the care they need without generous supporters who make that possible. I may be a broken record, but every dollar helps - NOTHING is ever too little. Thank you for loving them as much as we do!

It has been 2 weeks since Hurricane Helene made landfall here and left destruction in its wake. We lost power for 12 days, but thankfully all of our babies were safe and sound. We checked in with each adopter who was in the path of the hurricane, and we're so happy to know that they were all safe, too.

We're still trying to get back into a routine since everything was flipped upside down. The babies didn't seem too bothered by the power being out (as long as their toys were readily available). I'm sure they're glad to have their cat tv back!

Since our AC was out, we went through our wet food faster than usual to keep the babies hydrated and cooled down. If you'd like to help us keep the babies happy and fed, please feel free to donate some food at the link below. They're not picky, just always hungry! We also have some other needed items that are on the list, too, but food is always our priority. All ways to donate are listed below. Thank you for helping me help them. I know we’re all struggling right now - we’re eternally grateful.

637 days. That is how long Filly has been waiting to be adopted. He has been waiting so patiently while his perfect forever home finds him. Filly is such a sweet and loving boy, asking only for chin scratches and head kisses. He likes to be held like a baby just so he can be close to you. When you can’t hold him, he insists on walking in between your legs so he can wrap his long tail around you while he purrs. He’s a chatter box (especially when he’s hungry) and will tell you as many stories as you want! He loves cat trees, snoozing in sun spots, and playing with his friends. He can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once you’ve earned his love, you couldn’t possibly imagine never having had it.

Filly is almost 2 years old, fixed, and up to date on his shots. He loves cats and would love to go to a home where he can have a buddy to snuggle with. He does great with dogs with time.

If you think Filly might be the boy you’ve been looking for, please fill out an application at this link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc94gpsWGSWcIYuWlBWYszZi3xM2326r_3ir4Kifl_RANVM5A/viewform?vc=0&c=0&w=1&flr=0

Tomorrow is my 26th birthday! You know what that means - I’m asking for donations for my rescue What're the Odds Rescue! Any and all donations are appreciated, as I’m an independent rescuer and rely solely on my own funds and generous donations. As you know, funds raised go towards food, litter, medical expenses, shots, etc. In just 1 year, we have helped 3 blind babies, 1 half blind baby, 1 with autoimmune disease, and a plethora of healthy cats and kittens. We also did our first dog adoption this year, too! Thank you for helping me help them - I couldn’t imagine my life any different.

Goose, Finch, and their cousin Alby wanted to share an important message!

“Hello, we ate all the food 😹 We are growing babies after all! If you want to help us grow big and strong, please send us some food to nibble on. We eat wet, dry and sometimes a stray q-tip that hit the floor. We’re not picky at all! Thank you!”

If you’d like to feed the growing gremlins, all ways to do so are listed below! Thankfully all of our fosters are great eaters, but goodness do they love to eat 😂

We have news…

RAE HAS BEEN ADOPTED! 🥹

Rae (now Bee 🐝) has been adopted into her forever home. She now has a new brother and is absolutely in love with her new mom! While she is so missed, we are so happy for her and all of the progress she’s made. When we got the message about a tiny girl alone and sick, we knew we had to intervene. It took months of TLC, and then more months of waiting for her to grow so she could be spayed. From a tiny, frail sick kitten to a big girl full of love and sass, we cannot thank you enough for helping us help her. But now, all the hard work is done, and she has officially found her forever family and we could not be happier!

Enjoy the pictures of cutiepie’s story from beginning to her new home below!

Goose update 🪿

Goose’s appointment yesterday went well. We ran some bloodwork and everything came back normal, although his protein is a little low, which is expected since he hasn’t had much of an appetite. His blood sugar is stable, which means the karo syrup + nutrical we were doing worked, although he still wasn’t eating enough. We now have him on an appetite stimulant and are monitoring him. Goose was as sweet as ever at the vet, and continues to be his dorky, loving self at home. Please continue to send Goose all the good vibes and positive thoughts as we continue this regimen.

The total for Goose’s appointment was $168. As always, we are so grateful to anyone who supports us and helps us help our babies. We can never say thank you enough!

Goose needs our help!

Goosey boy hasn’t been feeling the greatest over the last week. Last weekend, he was slightly lethargic and not interested in food, so he saw the vet Monday. We ran a blood glucose test, which came back low, but was unsurprising since he hadn’t eaten much. Since his appointment Monday, Goose has been getting a sugar concoction of karo syrup & nutrical every few hours for added sugar and calories to stablize his blood sugar, which should have made him want to eat, but it hasn’t. So back to the vet we go! Goose will be getting bloodwork to see if there is something underlying going on which is causing his disinterest in eating. This appointment is estimated to be about $150-200 depending on the tests he needs. As always, we’ll do everything we can (and then some).

If you’d like to help us help Goose, please consider donating to our Paypal or Venmo listed below. Goose is so loved, and we just want him to be himself again.

Take in a momma and babies they said..it’ll be fun they said!

Guess who has coccidia? Finch, Goose, and Momma Penguin - that’s who!

Finch had been vomiting periodically overnight and saw the vet this morning. He tested positive for coccidia, so it’s almost guaranteed Goose and Penguin have it too. They’ve all started medicine and should be all better in a week or two. Please send them well wishes to get all better!

The bill from today’s visit was unexpected (thank you Finchy!). If you’d like to donate towards today’s visit, or future ones (ha!) all ways to donate are listed below. The babies have no idea how much they add up, but their cuteness pays for it, right?! Ah, kittens.

Introducing…

Finch and Goose! 🐥

Finch (aka Finchy, Finny, and Fin) and Goose (aka Goosey and Goose-Goose) are babies to momma Penguin 🐧!

These boys are 4 weeks old now and are growing and thriving each day. Currently, they’re working on their walk, learning to groom themselves, and wrestling each other!

Momma Penguin is feral, and prefers little to no contact, which we’ve been respecting. She loves her babies and is such a sweet girl to them! Once the babies are weaned, momma will be fixed and vaccinated, and go back to her outdoor life with her wonderful caretakers. Until then, she’s eating as much as she wants, teaching her baby chicks how to be the best possible cats, and snoozing whenever she wants!

These cuties will start weaning soon, so we’re in need of some kitten food! If you’d like to help the baby chicks grow, please see all ways to donate below!

Happy St. Patrick’s day from miss Rae! 🍀

We also have some very exciting news! Drumroll please…..

Rae is ready for adoption! Miss Rae has hit all of her milestones and is finally really to find her forever family. She is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her full adoption profile will be ready on our Petfinder in a couple of days - keep your eyes peeled (get it? ‘cause Rae’s blind? haha).
