It is with the most broken of hearts that we share that our sweet Stoney girl unexpectedly passed away on Thursday. There aren't enough words to express the sadness and emptiness that is felt with Stoney's absence. Although she was only with us for part of her life, it is important to share just how much she was loved.
Stoney (also known as Stonewall, Stonehenge, Stoner and Stoney Bologna), came to us in April of 2023 after we were told there was a cat living on top of a roof of a business on a main road. When I went to see who this crazy cat was and why she was there, I met a bright eyed and bushy tailed Stoney who climbed down from her perch (aka the roof) and immediately wanted love. After finding out that she had lived there for some time, Stoney left with us, never to live on a rooftop again.
She was sweet, and sassy. Full of life. Stoney was called "the greeter" and "the leader of the welcoming committee" because everyone she met was a friend. She would follow new people around like a shadow, demanding to be the center of attention. She loved to be scratched and cuddled, and absolutely hated being picked up. She would growl and show her dramatic side - it was a side she showed off all the time. She was playful, and would use whatever she could as a springboard, including doors, dressers, and cat towers. Oh, how she loved her cat tower. She would sunbathe for hours before eventually deciding she wanted a different sunshine-y spot. Stoney loved the company of her fellow feline friends. She would play and groom them, but only when she thought it was appropriate. If they wanted more from her than she was willing to give, she'd swat and then run away, presumably in an attempt to get away, but it would always end up with a game of chase. She loved bird tv, mice toys, wands, Churu treats, and her daily wet food, but most of all, Stoney just loved to be loved. And loved she was.
