We’re giving a new meaning to the acronym FAFO 🤣 - Feed A FOALC Orphan!

We currently are taking care of 16 animals a day. For just feed and preventatives, that costs us around $600 a month! We are desperately needing folks to donate on a monthly basis to cover these costs. At this moment in time, we only have around $340 coming in each month via monthly donors.

In addition to our daily costs, we also spend quite a bit on vet bills. This includes health certificates to transfer animals out of state, spay/neutering, and treating for illnesses. Our vet bills on average each month are between $1500-$2000.

Other expenses we incur include gas money for transport trips, helping BARC pay for their transport van that we use on occasion, outdoor bedding for our kennels, and general treats/toys to keep our animals happy.

As a reminder, we are all volunteers and do not get paid a dime for what we do. We often use our personal vehicles and finances to cover things we need done.

Any help to offset these costs is appreciated! Click either link below to sign up for monthly donations (hint: Zeffy doesn’t take fees from us but PayPal does 😉)

🥁 Drumroll Please! 🥁

From January 2025 to August 2025, we saved the lives of 134 animals! That’s an average of almost 17 a month! Not bad for our small group of volunteers!

The majority of animals that we take in get transferred to larger, partner rescues who have the means to be able to adopt out frequently. We rarely are able to adopt any out locally, but it does happen on occasion.

We currently have 16 animals we are helping to care for on a daily basis! 🤯 That’s gets VERY expensive, plus the added costs for the vetting we are required to do on most animals we transfer out of state.

Stay tuned for a post on how you can support us monthly and help us keep saving the lives of animals in Lincoln County!

Making progress with Uther! He finally let someone pet him today! It was just a few seconds, but we’ll take it!

He absolutely loves his new squeaky toy we gave him. He’s been carrying it around the yard and playing with it a bunch!

Still looking for someone to foster him long term or let him live out his last few years at your house. We don’t know how he is with other animals at this point as he is obviously just now getting used to us humans! However, he did at one point have a doggie brother that he got along with, so we’re hoping that he can at least be around other dogs.

Would anyone be willing to give this old a guy a place to live out his days, or be a temporary foster for him?
His name is Uther and he’s at least 12 years old. He is neutered and has had formal training in the past.

Unfortunately, he has been living alone at a home in Lincoln County for over a year. We found out about him on Thursday from neighbors who have been caring for him. We have since been in contact with his owner/family who has given us permission to be on the property and find him a new home.

If we cannot find a place for him to go, we are at least going to get him a dog house for winter and help the neighbors with food costs. We appreciate any monetary donation to help with this, or if anyone has a dog house they can donate, we’d be happy to pick it up.

We are not posting his location because he is very scared and neighbors are continuing to care for him. We are asking that others not post his location as well, in case anyone else is already aware of the situation. The last thing he needs is bunches of people coming in to his territory right now. Please understand this is for his safety and for us to be able to gain his trust.

Please read the below updated post for information on our shelter project. This post will remain pinned to the top of the page and updates added as needed to ensure transparency/public awareness.

9/4/25 - As there have been some public concerns about this project, we are posting a brief update to keep everyone informed. At the current moment, we are saving all of our shelter funds we have received (ARPA grant mentioned below and the $11,500 LEDA grant). Our plan is to still build at the fairgrounds, however we need to ensure its sustainability first. We have been supporting the fairgrounds in their efforts to bring events to the county that both raise funding for its continuance and give the community fun things to do. The fairgrounds remains a non profit entity that is managed by a board of directors. They do not receive any funding from the county and rely solely on donations, grants, and monies made from events. Volunteers put in 40-60 hour weeks there maintaining the grounds, planning events, and fundraising. We hope our collaboration helps to bring awareness to their efforts and helps to create a place that Lincoln Countians can be proud of, and a place that we can eventually call home. ❤️

5/19/25 - We’ve had a lot of questions about our future shelter since making the location announcement, so we’re making this post to hopefully clear some things up.

The shelter is NOT going to be owned, operated, or funded by the county. It will belong to us alone with an agreement with the Lincoln County Memorial Fairgrounds (also not owned by the county). Both are nonprofit 501(c)(3) entities.

Therefore, there is no ongoing funding for the build. All we have is the initial amount of ARPA funding we were granted. That’s it.

Our shelter will also NOT function as the other animal shelters you see in the area. They all have paid, full time staff and receive funding from various resources not available to us at this time. Our shelter will be 100% ran by volunteers and paid for by donations/grants.

Because we will not have paid staff, this means that there will not be daily “open” hours. We will also not be able to take in any animals by drop off. All intakes will have to be approved in advance by a volunteer as our space will be limited. We also cannot take in more animals than we can responsibly care for, physically and financially.

It may be quite a while before we open. Maybe years. As stated above, we have very little funding at this time. It is NOT enough to complete the project by any means. We are working on fundraising ideas, have a GoFundMe going, and will be applying for some grants. We are hoping maybe some local contractors can volunteer their services as well.

For the time being, all animals in our care are in foster homes. One of the main goals of this shelter is to alleviate the stress on our fosters. Some of our fosters have had dogs for over a year. They need a break! We also need to get these dogs to a more visible space where we can have adoption days and be open during Fairground events.

So while we are excited about having a place to build, we have a very long road ahead. In addition to raising funds for the shelter, we still have to get in enough donations to take care of the 20+ dogs already in our care. This isn’t cheap and we stress about money on a daily basis. We’re still hoping some rich person comes along and decides to fund everything 🤣 but until that happens, we’ll keep begging for money and doing every type on fundraiser we can!

If you have any additional questions, please comment below and we will answer them as best we can. Again, we appreciate all the support and excitement! m

According to the Lincoln County Corruption page, there are concerns about our finances/intentions. We have always been more than transparent about this, but this post is meant to clear up any confusion regarding how we manage our money.

Our bank account currently contains $20,277.44. Our PayPal contains $1,863.61 plus pending donations from August that we have yet to receive from the PayPal Giving Fund. We have only opened one GoFundMe account to raise money for a shelter and that money remains untouched. Link is available in the pinned post.

We received an ARPA grant from the county commission in the amount of $35,000 last year. This grant was contingent on us attempting to use a property owned by the Lincoln County EDA in Branchland. We attempted to rehab this property as requested, however the cost was going to exceed our grant by tens of thousands. Many days of free labor and hard work were put into this by volunteers. $153.88 was spent on food/gas for volunteers for this project. We are currently waiting to be reimbursed $4,417 for the cost of material/labor used at this site. The EDA is placing the site up for sale and we will be reimbursed upon completion of the sale. That left us with $30,384.12.

We spent $7,901.68 on supplies for the intended shelter that are now either currently be used for our foster animals or are stored at our homes awaiting a shelter to be built (more on that later in a separate post). That took us down to $22,681.22.

We are waiting on reimbursement from the state via the SNP grant in the amount of $2250. This is money we paid up front for community pets to be spayed/neutered.

The checks we received from Senator Stuart are currently with the county commission waiting to be cashed. This is verifiable via a quick phone call to the commission office.

The donations we receive monthly from individuals varies greatly. This money is used for our ongoing operating expenses such as food, preventative medicine, vet bills, gas money for transport trips, etc.

We operate on a VERY tight budget and work our tails off trying to raise money just to stay afloat. We also often contribute our own personal funds and use our own personal vehicles/gas to transport animals. None of us are paid a dime for anything we do and we dedicate many, many hours a week of work to this project.

If anyone ever has questions about our finances, please feel free to ask us directly. We will be more than happy to sit down with you and show you exactly where it all goes and how much work this all takes. We are so proud of the things we have accomplished in the past year and hope to continue to make life better for ALL living creatures in Lincoln County.

It’s been quiet on the rescue front lately, mainly because our foster homes remain full of big dogs.

That doesn’t mean we stop trying to save lives though! These little guys were accepted into Action For Animals Humane Society this past week and made their journey north!

Small dogs are usually easy for us to network/find homes for. They typically go straight to rescues and don’t require us to have a dedicated foster available.

Rescues are still overrun with cats and big dogs. We wish things were different, but until everyone spays/neuters their pets, it will continue to be a problem. 😔

Welcome Jasmine to the FOALC crew!

Do we have room for her? Nope. However she is newly pregnant and the world needs zero more pittie puppies 😭

She will be getting spayed asap, as will a few of our other dogs. Our spay/neuter grant funds were used up long ago, so if you’d like to sponsor a spay/neuter, click the link below to donate!
