The expression "a hair of the dog that bit you" refers to the curious notion that a morning hangover may be cured by imbibing even more on the following day. This expression derives from the medieval belief that placing a hair from a dog who had bitten someone on the wound could cure the bite, or even prevent a rabies infection. Of course, both of these ideas have no basis in reality at all!!
