This article has substantiated some of my experiences with having a senior dog. Good information.
I have finally purchased COQ10 for my 15 yr old Daisy, for prevention.
DOSING:
Administer 1-2 mg/lb of body weight when used for prevention and 5-10 mg/lb of body weight during treatment depending on age, breed, and condition.

My Daisy suffers from seasonal hot spots that make her itch and scratch. I comb her through with a tight comb and rub the irritable areas with a dab of Frankincense Essential Oil and a dab of Lavender Essential Oil. It works. It calms her skin and she stops scratching.
Dr. Roark (an essential oil vet) shares that Frankincense oil can be paired with lavender oil to help soothe irritated skin.

Here is a list of safe essential oils for your dogs and their usage. I have all of them in my house.
I use a brand called HIQILI (on Amazon).

Make sure you make a note of the oils that are harmful to your dogs (also on this list).

Dr. Marty offers some valuable tips to avoid your pups overheating this summer:

⚠️ Heat hazard #1: HOT sidewalk temps ⚠️

This is one of the MOST important things to keep in mind in the summer:

Roads and sidewalks are WAY hotter than outdoor temperatures.

In fact, the sidewalk can get up to 125 degrees — even when it’s only 77 degrees outside.2

And the hotter it gets outside, the more sidewalk temperatures rise…

Which can cause serious damage to your dog’s paws.

So what should you do about it?

Easy! Try the “5-second sidewalk test.”

Simply place the palm of your hand flat on the sidewalk.

If you can comfortably hold your hand there for 5 seconds or more, it’s probably safe for your pup.

If not, you should plan to take your dog for a walk once the weather gets a little cooler — like early in the morning or later in the evening…

And opt for short potty breaks on patches of grass or dirt during the hottest part of the day.


⚠️ Heat hazard #2: Parked cars ⚠️

Cars parked in the sun (and even the shade) can get MUCH hotter than outside…

In fact, on hot days, your car can get over 20 degrees hotter than the outdoor conditions in just 1 hour.3

So a good rule of thumb is to NEVER leave your dog in a parked car in the summer.

And if you’re struggling to figure out if your car is “too hot” for your pup…

Just remember: If you’re too hot, they’re too hot.

So I recommend ONLY bringing your dog along for the ride if they’re getting out at your destination with you.


⚠️ Heat hazard #3: Not enough water ⚠️

Like us, our pups need more water when it’s hot outside…

So this time of year, it’s especially important to make sure your dog always has access to fresh water.

I have 5 pets — so I’ve gotten in the habit of checking the water bowls every 2 hours or so on hot days!

But you might not need to check it that often :)

And if you notice your pup isn’t making frequent enough trips to their water dish — try out a few of these tricks to help them stay hydrated:

➔ Place multiple water bowls around the house.
➔ Get them a dog water fountain with flowing water to encourage them to drink.
➔ Regularly clean their water bowls, refresh their water, and on really hot days, try adding a few ice cubes!
➔ Mix my Bone Broth Booster with the recommended amount of water to their food at meal time.

It’s been a hot summer so far, Nadine…

And we’ve still got a few months left.

So help keep your pup safe by keeping these hot-weather tips in mind :)

P.S. After working as a veterinarian for more than 45 years — I’ve treated lots of dogs for heat-related complications.

Which is why I believe ALL pet parents should be on the lookout for symptoms of overheating, like:

❌ Excessive panting or drooling
❌ Nausea and vomiting
❌ Fatigue (excessive tiredness)
❌ An elevated heart rate or difficulty breathing4

And if you notice any of these signs —

Take immediate action:

✅ Move your dog to a cooler area
✅ Dip their paws into cool (not cold) water
✅ Offer them fresh drinking water

And contact your veterinarian immediately.

While you may see advice online to pour cool water over your dog when they’re overheating, do NOT do this.

Your dog’s fur can actually trap the water close to their body and slowly heat it…

Which may end up raising their body temperature rather than lowering it.

DIARRHEA...AND YOUR DOG'S WATER...

There's no such thing as good diarrhea in dogs (or any animal). Aside from the obvious aesthetic and practical unpleasantness, it's usually a sign of something wrong in a mutt's guts.!! When diarrhea strikes, it's natural to worry that it's something they've eaten — either something you didn't intend them to consume or their dog food.!
Ingredients in your dog's diet, changing their diet too dramatically, or their propensity to eat things they're not supposed to, can all cause loose stools.

HOWEVER, diarrhea is nearly always caused by an infection! and one cause of infection is too often overlooked!

YOUR DOG'S WATER!!!...

Parasites like giardia — which causes the diarrheal disease giardiasis, absolutely thrive in the water that many dogs drink, whether a bowl that's been left too long at home, a communal bowl at a dog park or cafe, or a puddle.

I give my dogs FIJI water...water with high PH levels.
I make sure they get a fresh bowl every morning. I do not let them drink from communal fountains or bowls.
