Still looking for a place Sierra and Jayson can go temporarily until the sanctuary is ready to receive them. Please contact Melani at 463-5533.
Did you know that piglets can be potty-trained at a very young age? They naturally leave their beds to pee and poop, and can easily learn to use a litter box. This tiny piglet has instantaneously picked up on how to use the litterbox. She also holds her poop until I place her outside, instead of going in her box. I’d prefer if she went in her box, but this works too. Pigs are so clean and smart!
Mahalo to Neal for loaning us your sawsall. Carlos handled that baby like a pro! And Joan was fantastic in every regard. I love these volunteers! And I dearly appreciate Neal and Nicole who are also two of our best volunteers. They were crucial in our last big rescue when they volunteered so many hours of their time plus ended up donating thousands of dollars toward this rescue of the 15 pigs who went to the Mahi Pono property. So grateful for all our volunteers. We need each and every one of them and we are so grateful!
A team of volunteers are getting together on Saturday to move Jasper and Hamilton to their new space. This is so exciting! I can’t wait to see them run around in their new huge space. Immensely grateful for the kind-hearted couple Tally and Ted who have offered their space as foster parents to these sweet boys.
Thanks, Joan, for the awesome pics and videos. Look at this expansive new space Jasper and Hamilton will be living in!
Wahine power! Joan Petty is one bad-ass volunteer! I’m so grateful to have her help with installing the fence for Jasper and Hamilton’s new space!
Sweet handicapped Rambo needs to be rehomed asap. His back legs don’t function, and he just needs a small area with some kind folks who will give him a soft place to be. His dad Daniel wants him to be in a better place. Please can you help? Even a temporary foster home would be wonderful. Contact Melani at 463-5533
This poor baby was just found injured. Is anyone able to foster her/him? Call me at 463-5533. I can help with whatever care this little one will need.
After dinner, cooling down, maybe time for a walk. Or maybe not!
I gave the girls showers and then left, saying I’d be back with treats. They remembered! Where are those treats??
The girls greeting their visitor. ❤️
The girls are learning to drink from their water nozzles. They also drink water from their pools and tubs. Today I brought the hose to one older mama who was sleeping in the sun, and she happily guzzled a lot of it for a long time. So very precious.
It took a lot of persuasion to convince the girls to leave the trailer. They were nervous, poor babies.
❤️These little piggies went home♥️
We’re almost done with a temporary infrastructure! Soon we can move the pigs! 🙏🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖🐖❤️
We’ve been so consumed with posts of the new sanctuary being built, there’s been little time to post about the other pigs in the rescue.
Everybody’s doing well and we’re always moving along with them, as well as answering calls from folks on the island about pigs in need of rescue. I got two calls on the way to the sanctuary today, and ended up delivering some goat milk for a baby who had been rescued last night.
Yesterday Jillian and I met Rambo and his dad Daniel. He lost the use of one of his legs when he was quite young. We will be supporting his dad to help him be a little bit more comfortable, getting some medicine and veterinary care, and eventually bringing him into his forever home. Jillian and I both fell completely in love with Rambo…and I daresay he felt the same way about us! He was so excited and happy to see us, “hot-panting” for the whole visit, the way pigs do with heavy breathing when greeting someone they like. What an incredibly sweet boy Rambo is. We’re so grateful we got a call from Sydney, who originally helped Henry the pig and is now our friend and supporter. She and her sister were walking the neighborhood and happened to see Rambo. One thing led to another and now Rambo knows us. So grateful. 🙏 His dad Daniel has done a wonderful job with him, considering his limited resources and knowledge. Rambo is a very lucky pig. And his life is going to get even better. ❤️🐷❤️
We’ve got water! Thanks to the incredibly kind folks at Mahi Pono, who have 10,000 more important things to do than help us. We are truly grateful. 🙏
This is the first of a series of water nozzles the pigs will be able to drink from. They’ll also have water tubs and showers, since it gets very hot here, and pigs can’t regulate their heat because they have hardly any sweat glands. We’re working on making them lots of airy shelters to get under some shade as well.
Woohoo! We’re almost there! Thank you to all the kind folks who have supported this endeavor. All our donors, sponsors, volunteers, and social media supporters. You all make a difference, each and every one of you. A huge THANK YOU to you all!!!🐖❤️🐷🙏🌈
