Happy 3rd birthday to Kokomo, Brodi, Iroh, Brandy, Juliette, Siren, Beau, Sasha, Lady, and Roxie. We love you all and wish you many more happy, safe years and with the best quality of life.

We are in the middle of moving so our plans for litters earlier this year with Lady and Sasha fell through. Our fingers are crossed that later this year has more favorable circumstances.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Sasha, Roxie, Ren, Lady, Koko, Juliette, Iroh, Brandi, Brodie and Beau!!! All should be about fully grown now, though some may grow a little bit more. Adult coats should be coming in if they haven't already, but can take up to 3 years to fully develop. I'm so proud of the families that have adopted them and the accomplishments they have made. I will post updates soon.

Providing an update on our breeding program: the girls still have more health testing to be completed this year (they will be turning 2 in February) and we will be postponing any potential breedings. I am expecting a newborn myself this spring, and since the girls have their heats within a week of each other with the potential for large litters, we do not feel we could provide adequate upbringing and care for puppies at this time. Next possible date for litters will be around fall this year and once all the required health testing is complete.

Happy Holidays!

Here is a snapshot of potential stud matches for Lady. This data was collected from running test litters with a BetterBred premium membership. I started with BetterBred studs because that testing is required for studs I will use in the breeding program, and because many studs do not have this testing complete, it is a limiting factor, making it my preferred starting point.

Taking my breeding program into consideration, my main focuses were:
-what's the stud's haplotype contribution?
-what is the highest in**ed puppy possible? Average inbreeding level for the litter?
-What is the average outlier genetics? What's the highest outbred puppy?
-How old is the stud, will he be at least 4 years of age at the time of breeding or is he too old for live mating? (AI is not preferred for a first time litter for the dam)
-How tall is the stud, is he within 3" of the dam's height? (I believe mismatching sizes contributes to phenotypic abnormalities and risky conformation)
-Is the stud the preferred and compatible color and pattern for the dam with the breed standard?

This data does not provide information about the behavior/temperament, OFA testing, and conformation of the sire which will also be taken into consideration. However, it does provide a good list of studs to start with for further research.

Today I am organizing the photos and creating/updating albums. Some photos that were mobile uploads cannot be moved to the appropriate album, so you may see that I delete them and re-upload the same photos.

I'd also like to formally announce that Emmy is retired from breeding (she has been spayed). The number of litters a female in a breeding program can have depends on many factors. We decided that one litter was enough for Emmy. She carried the pregnancy well and gave birth to all the puppies with no visible complications on her part and in decent time. However, the process was stressful for her and she was not an attentive mother (we cleaned, fed, and helped all 10 puppies relieve themselves for the first 3 weeks (meaning every 2-3 hours we tended to them for about 1.5 hours to make sure all their needs were met)). This may have been because Emmy was a spoiled pet, not raised around puppies, and not bred until 3 years of age.

We kept two females from the litter that we felt displayed a good combination of diverse genetics for the breed, calm and eager-to-please behavior, and improvement on structure and conformation from Emmy. However, we will not be breeding these girls until they are at least 2 years of age and only if they pass the recommended health testing for the breed. This means the next possible date for a litter from us will be sometime after Feb. 2023. I will put together a document entailing how we plant to proceed with our breeding program and post it so that anyone interested can review it.
