Smithville Coffee House and General Store is located at 108 NE Second Street, across from the once iconic, Honey’s Restaurant, featured in the blockbuster movie, Hope Floats, starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick, Jr!!! The store has many wonderful specialty items, coffees, pastries, ice cream, books, and so much more!

Did you know April is National Heartworm Prevention Month???

Did you know that when we adopted Big Bru, he was heartworm positive???

We were devastated. In my mind, heartworms meant a death sentence. I literally started to cry in the vet office.

We are so fortunate to have an incredible veterinarian that took the time to explain to me that treatment was available. I told her the horror stories I had been told in the past and she gave me honest and professional advice for every single one. She was honest in telling me we don’t know how far long his heart worms are and there is no promise that the treatment will work.

Brutus had already become such a valuable part of our family that treatment was the only option. There was no turning back when it came to his health.

Four years later and he is still heartworm negative and living his best life. I can’t imagine life without his toothy grin, his sleeping on his back, or his gentle nudge on my hand when he wants me to rub his head. He is my beloved son.

I am so glad to have a veterinarian that is also a very dear friend. She’s been our vet for almost 25 years. I trust her and consider her my family. I know she would never steer me wrong. She has been by my side for best and worst parts of life. She’s held my hand when we have had to say goodbye to our beloved dogs and smiled with me with every new addition. She is beyond dedicated to her profession, which, is more so a passion.

Big Bru is keeping me company today while I prep and produce his namesake dog treats! This cold doesn’t bother him one bit! He is loving every second!!!

He recently had an annual exam and we are so happy his bloodwork and overall health came back excellent!
