This year is seemingly complicated for our fellow k-9’s

There has been lot of viruses going around that are not the mystery virus

Sometimes we do all we can to keep them from getting sick for example keeping current on vaccines and avoiding common areas where dogs congregate who maybe haven’t had any vaccines and are shedding these viruses before being symptomatic

But as we know even with human ickies we can do all we can and sometimes it’s not avoidable

Well wishes for everyone and remember to disinfect not just for the sake of humane icks but dog ones as well

I have been keeping in contact with another groomer I’m friends with at a vet clinic and we both sympathize with all our furry friends and their families

And remember if your dog is sick keep them home if they are lethargic - puking -diarrhea- coughing - mucus in eyes or nose etc.

Keep them home until no longer symptomatic ❤️

Veterinarians have been tracking Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC), which is when groups of contagious bacteria or viruses effect the respiratory system of dogs.

My husband is doing a give away for Christmas 🎄

I’m sure many of you have seen the articles flying around about a new mystery upper respiratory virus affecting dogs

With any illness make sure you are cleaning and sanitizing your pets areas as well as keeping them at home when sick or showing symptoms

Yes it’s inconvenient to reschedule a groom or a trip to play care but it’s incredibly important to contain those illnesses and not subject other animals to it and then create a full on closure of a facility to quarantine because of a bad decision.

Wishing everyone’s pups good health this winter season! For any questions I suggest reaching out to your vets as they will know much more about this than I 🐾🐩

It’s that time of year again! 🦨🦨

If your pup gets sprayed the most important things is don’t get them wet first do not wet them down before using mix apply straight as on dry coat! And let it sit rinse and repeat

Another suggestion is using degreasing shampoos even after this process when due for the next few baths and some conditioner ❤️
you may notice a lingering smell anytime the dog gets wet over the next several months

Some people add vinegar or peroxide to this paste just becareful with peroxide by not using too much or letting it sit when mixed that way.

Happy fall everyone!

As we enter fall and see more critters out and about I also highly recommend staying current on rabies vaccines it saves you and your animal as there is 0 cure and rabies is 100% fatal

Don’t like to over vaccinate? No problem you can always ask for a titer test to check those antibodies

Birch Bark Grooming is officially closed. Thank you everyone for having been so supportive of the business since day one and for being such great clients!

In 16 years of grooming you guys have truly been the best group of clients/friends I could ask for as a first time business owner!

I had to chuckle at Tonto here - he is very familiar with his spa day routine as soon as he was done he ran to the bench hopped up to get his picture done before I was even ready for that portion of his visit 😆

This is a product post for those of you with pets who suffer skin and coat issues :) IV San Bernard has had great reviews with their products and helping relieve issues as well as help repair - along with diet changes supportive to your dogs skin and coat needs working from the inside out depending on the issue these guys have great products! This is my last 3 day week in the shop there are 3 more days I’ll be in after that doing a mix of things the rest of the month I’ll be taking time to move and clean up

And a reminder that the phone line is now shut off

I currently do not have any openings my last few days at the shop and have several people on a list if anyone should cancel

I appreciate everyone’s support and empathize with your needs to get your pups groomed especially with spring being here - unfortunately I just cannot take on anymore

I will continue to have a list of shops posted on the window of the shop until I’m officially out at the end of may
