I feel I need to clarify something. When I said in yesterday’s post, that our house was taking a beating, that was not directed at Toby or one specific dog. As you all know, the daily life with kids and pets, our homes take a beating. But then add in the amount of different dogs, some like to get muddy, others drool, most shed, all have nails and teeth, some happy p*e, others try to mark, etc, it is a lot. I apologize if I am offending any of my clients, but I just want you to understand where I am coming from when I said it. We are going into our 7th year, and for that I am very grateful. We love all of our furbuddies! Thank you all!

Our house looks a little well-loved.

But that’s because the people I love actually LIVE here.

We have shoes piled by the back door. Toothpaste globs in the sink. Fingerprints at all different heights running up the wall next to the stairs.

But that’s because the people I love actually LIVE here.

Our light switches are sticky. Red and blue scuffs of paint line the baseboards from remote control car races down the hall. And our carpet is tattered and worn.

But that’s because the people I love actually LIVE here.

My teenagers are in charge of mowing the grass, and each bigger boy is responsible for cleaning a bathroom every week. Tiny paint splotches from pumpkin projects or dyed eggs or other masterpieces linger on the dining table. And various heights of growing kids are marked and dated on our kitchen wall.

The dryer is CONSTANTLY humming.

The dishwasher is on a never-ending cycle.

Everywhere you look, you’ll find half-filled glasses of water or soda cans and a ridiculous number of discarded, smelly socks.

But that’s because there are so many lovely little people LIVING AND GROWING UP right here.

One day, we’ll refinish the floors. We’ll update the cabinets in the kitchen. And fill the scratches by the back door from our puppy. One day we’ll finally get that coffee table to fill the empty space in the living room (which currently houses a couch cushion obstacle course with pillows and blankets).

And one day I’ll walk room to room in my clean, tidy house . . . and smile. Remembering all the LIFE that was LIVED here.

For now, our house might seem a little tattered and worn . . . but it is beyond perfect to me.

Because the people I love most in the world . . .

Toby loves his bully sticks! They definitely keep him occupied! Good boy! One more sleep and you see your parents!

If anyone has been wondering why it looks like Toby is “wearing a diaper”. Well, he kinda is. So let me give an explanation.

Male dogs mainly, tend to “mark” things. Most times, it’s the unneutered ones. But other times it’s just a male thing. I refer to it as “p*e mail”. It’s sending a message to any other pup, that they have been here. As you all know, our house is our home, and we want pets to be at home here, but we cannot have our curtains, sofa, walls, cabinets, etc being marked. So, this is where the belly bands come in. That way if he lifts his leg, it’s contained!!

Now to figure out a solution for the excitement p*e! I mean, I can remove most of the carpets or rugs on the main level, but the p*e still leaves behind a scent that we cannot smell but other dogs can, and it triggers a reaction. So if anyone has any ideas, please send them my way! We want everyone to be happy and enjoy their time here, but unfortunately at this point, our home is taking a beating! So until I can get a climate controlled outbuilding, specially for our guests, I’m open to suggestions!
