The Positive Presence
Did You Know? Managed, healthy free roaming dog and cat populations can actually be a positive draw for tourists!

In places like some Greek and Japanese islands, well cared for community animals are beloved fixtures that enhance the local charm. The problems like noise, mess, aggression, and road safety issues only surface when humane management is lacking.

How Tourists Care: By recognizing the difference between a managed and unmanaged population, you become an advocate for humane solutions. Your interest in the local animals encourages communities to adopt responsible management practices like Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and community feeding stations. You help transform a potential problem into a unique, positive cultural experience that benefits everyone!

Seeing Beyond the Surface
Did You Know? Every stray animal you see is a survivor facing incredible odds, and your empathy can make a difference!

While they may look resilient, many free-roaming dogs and cats are condemned to a hard life where competition for food is high, shelter is scarce, and medical care is non-existent. This results in malnutrition, disease, and tragically high death rates, especially among the youngest puppies and kittens.

How Tourists Care: When you choose to support ethical, animal-friendly businesses and local rescue efforts, you are voting with your wallet. You show the community that animal welfare is a priority for visitors. Your simple act of kindness—like providing a fresh bowl of water or reporting an injured animal to a local rescue—shines a light on their struggle and supports their fight for survival.

Are They Really Strays?
Not every roaming animal is a stray. Some are community pets. Some are owned but allowed to roam.

Observe before intervening—and ask locals or rescues for guidance. If you feel compelled to help, you can give them some water or some food. You may be the only person who shows them care today.

“Why Tourists Care About Strays”
Imagine you’re walking through a sunlit plaza, sipping coffee, and a stray dog quietly curls up beside you. It’s moments like these that remind us: travel isn’t just about places, it’s about connection.

Tourists care about stray dogs and cats because they reflect the soul of a destination. Compassionate travelers want to know:
✔️Are animals treated humanely here?
✔️ Can I help while I’m visiting?
✔️ Is there a way to make a lasting impact?

That’s where CANDi – Cats and Dogs International comes in. We work with tourism boards, hotels, and local rescues to create humane travel solutions that protect animals and empower travelers.

What Happens After Culling?
Culling removes animals from the streets. But what happens next?

The remaining animals breed faster. There’s more food, more space, less competition.

The population rebounds — often within months. The cycle starts again.

Spay/neuter breaks the cycle. Fewer births. Less suffering. Real change.

Together we can create change. It's time to unite! Follow us and learn how.

What Tourism Should Support
Tourism can be a force for good. But only if it supports humane solutions.

Culling animals before tourist season is not the answer. It’s cruel. It’s temporary. It’s bad for communities. It's bad for tourism.

Spay/neuter programs reduce suffering, improve public health, and build trust between locals and visitors.

At CANDi-Cats and Dogs International, our vision is to bridge that gap. Follow us and let us show you how!

The Hidden Cost of Culling
Culling may seem “cheaper” than sterilization. But the truth? It’s not.

Hidden costs include: Toxins & cleanup, Kenneling & staff turnover, Public backlash, Rebounding populations

Culling becomes a never-ending cycle. More killing. More cost. No solution.

Spay/neuter is cheaper, kinder, and more effective. CANDi is working to make it the global standard. Help be part of our movement and show tourism we care!

What Is Culling, Really?
Culling sounds like a quick fix. But it’s not.

It means poisoning, shooting, or removing animals to be killed in shelters. It’s traumatic, expensive, and ineffective.

Culling only removes the animals you see — not the source. The population rebounds. The suffering continues.

Spay/neuter addresses the root cause. CANDi supports ongoing clinics with local rescue groups. It’s the only humane way forward. Join us and learn how you can help.
