“Our lovely Luna peacefully passed away this past Tuesday, in her mother's arms ( Allison Kozel) while resting her sweet head in my hand ( Tracey Buyce)
Fate brought Luna and I together; we were destined to meet on that street in Mexico in 2013. From the second our eyes met, our souls connected. It’s why I named her Luna, she was the moon amongst the stars.
But Luna wasn’t meant just for me. Luna was a beacon of hope the whole world was about to meet. Luna was the ultimate underdog, she survived starvation and cancer before coming to the US. Luna was a courageous fighter with the heart of a lion. She was cared for by her vet, RtwoDtwo Dzul in Mexico, who never gave up on her. Luna’s Mexican foster parents, Carla Cabrera and Hector Navarro, who lovingly nursed her back to health and then flew her to the New York.
Luna had much to teach us about strength, forgiveness, compassion, and giving love freely with no expectations. Luna shared her story of love and survival with over a million people. That’s a million hearts that were deeply moved by her Luna’s spirit to live. The little dog who could and would, spread joy and hope all over the world. She became an ambassador for the Mexican street dog and their plight for survival (CANDi (Cats and Dogs International). Luna gave street dogs a voice and a rare gift, the gift of genuine hope. She gave us all hope that there’s still empathy and faith in this confusing world.
Luna traveled very far to find her Mom, Allison Kozel. But Luna knew where she was going all along. Luna was finally going home, home to Allison, when she needed her most. Luna lead an extraordinary life. Allison gave Luna the freedom to experience boundless joy and pure happiness after surviving so much pain and neglect. Luna had exciting adventures hiking and camping in the Adirondacks with her Mom and brother, Crosby by her side. Luna finally had her happy ending; a family that love her fiercely.
Luna’s extraordinary soul is free now.
I love you my sweet soul child, you will always a part of my spirit tribe and always in my heart.”
Love,
