We are working on getting another spay/neuter grant for the 4 KRRAS counties. Because the shelter has severed the relationship with Starfish Animal Rescue, who actually is the group who obtained the grant, we may not be able to obtain additional Hip to Snip Funding. If you are interested in getting another several hundred of your animals fixed at low cost you might reach out to your county judges and let them know your thoughts. Maybe they can help with this.

Hi friends! We are working on another Hip to Snip grant. Fingers crossed. In the meantime, Kentucky River Regional Animal Shelter (KRRAS) is looking for a manager. Please share with your animal loving friends. And hopefully we will have good news about Hip to Snip clinics too! Message us and we will forward your info to the KRRAS board. The shelter is also seeking applications for employees. Can apply using this link also. Happy Saturday ❤️✌🏻 ❤️

We are looking for an appropriate location before we can start booking s/n appointments. Any businesses closed on weekends that might work? Can look at warehouse locations too. Want to stay in Hazard. Also, we are happy to see how many animal lovers we meet during the clinics and all the people reaching out to help neighbors also. We would like to keep a list of animal lovers in each community of the KRRAS counties in case there might be an animal in need. Is that you? If so pm us and leave your name, cell and county please.

What have Hip to Snip Clinics been doing? Well, we were in Hazard for the last 3 weekends in a row. 😵‍💫 That is a lot of work, I promise you. Many thanks to our vet Dr.P and her tech, Heather, Joanna D, Beth V and Donna S. Special thanks to the recovery teams for all 6 days, Natalie plus husband, Lori M, Eden for the extra lift assist. Thank you to Barnyard Boutique and Beth for hosting. We appreciate it. Now for the details -
We fixed 84 female cats!
We fixed 69 male cats!
We fixed 34 male dogs!
We fixed 48 female dogs! That’s crazy, right? Most of the dogs were very large. Thank you to Banfield Foundation for this worthwhile grant and to Starfish Animal Rescue for the hotel and travel support and lunch most days and for the donated flea meds for the cats. It truly takes a village. We will not be doing any more clinics in March but hope to resume in April. We want to focus on pits, hounds and black dogs. Why? Because that’s what ends up in the shelter. AND THE CATS 🐈.

03/02/2024

We are doing spay/neuter today. Female dogs preferably. Over 35 lbs. Message us your cellphone to be in a wait list for this morning. NO BREAKFAST!

02/25/2024

We realize there are many people wanting low cost spay/neuter - we are doing the best we can. Thank you to the people who have been willing to be on standby when clients do not show up and don’t let us know they aren’t coming. Please do not show up at Barnyard Boutique expecting to get a spot for s/n - this is a business being kind enough to host the clinics. She does not schedule and can’t influence who is scheduled. Sorry.

02/25/2024

We have room for a few male cats TODAY if they didn’t eat. Message me your cell and name of MALE cat.

02/24/2024

We have a few unexpected dog spots today if your dog has not eaten. Please message us if you can come for the clinic.

02/24/2024

There are a limited number of spots for scheduled clinics. We will update when we have addl dates and/or spots. Thank you!

02/22/2024

We are currently scheduling cats for this Sunday. I’m not sure how many spots are left. I feel like we have several mail spots available. we likely will not be able to add any dogs in February or March so right now we are fixing cats. If you are interested, please message us with your name,
the cats name and
the county you live in
and your cell phone. If you don’t send that information, we will just skip to the next person. Hope to see you. This is a volunteer position and we are doing as many as the Grant will allow.

01/27/2024

If you borrowed a crate for a hip to snip clinic, please return it.

01/20/2024

We are looking for a bigger space for Hip to Snip clinics. We might have an opportunity for a second vet at a few clinics but need more room. Does anyone know of an available option? Maybe a place open on the weekend we could ‘borrow’ - want to stay in Hazard to be more central for the KRRAS counties. Can you PM us if you can help or have any workable ideas? More space only helps the animals bc we can fix more.

01/19/2024

Hello all. We were trying to do a hip to Snip clinic this weekend but the weather is not cooperating and we don’t want anyone driving in dangerous weather to get your pets fixed. Once we have a replacement date, we will contact those people from this weekend to reschedule first. Stay safe!

01/15/2024

We know you were wondering what did Hip to Snip accomplish this last weekend?
We weren’t sure if the weather would stop us, it certainly stopped our volunteers out of Illinois. But, thanks to the veterinary team, Joanna Davidson, Barnyard Boutique and Beth, Donna and all volunteers we were able to spay/neuter 66 pets. We continue to focus on large females (35 lbs and up) since this has been a neglected group for a LONG time. We know the weather was a challenge and we appreciate how grateful the community is to have this grant opportunity from Banfield Foundation and Starfish Animal Rescue. ALL of the grant money goes to spay/neuter; Starfish covers the vet team hotels and volunteer lunches. The cost the public pays goes to buy supplies for future s/n - blades, autoclave supplies, clippers, etc. We are planning on being in THIS weekend (1/20 1/21) for another clinic. Sometimes we can wait list pets too since emergencies happen and sometimes we have open spots. Email [email protected] and give
YOUR name
pets name and s*x, cat or dog (if dog - approx weight)
County
Income of 40k or less
CELLPHONE preferred or landline
We have a few openings for larger females and some cats.

12/30/2023

As we are coming to the end of 2023 - we wanted to share our spay/neuter numbers. Hip to Snip clinics have altered 605 animals in 2023. Although we wish it were even higher, we know that’s not a small accomplishment. We had a rocky start figuring out logistics but we have really been ramping up the last few months. We have several more clinics we will be scheduling in 2024 - we will be responding to the emails at [email protected]. in the next few days. Special thanks to Banfield Foundation for the generous grant, Dr P, Heather and Michael, Woodstock Animal Foundation for your mentoring, Starfish Animal Rescue, our clinic anchor Joanna, all the monitoring volunteers, Donna and Bill, Beth for clinic space and Tony for storing clinic items, Loree and Alicia for vet tech support. It takes a team effort to accomplish this - thank you to the community also who are always so grateful for the clinics.

12/27/2023

Our December Hip to Snip clinic numbers are in.

In December we did 68 BIG dogs (47 big females) and 94 cats! Wahoo! Imagine how many less babies just with this one month. Much thanks to Dr P and Heather, Joanna, Beth, Alicia and Loree for the help with the heavy lifting. Thanks to all of the Hip to Snip volunteers who have spent 2 weekends lifting up heavy dogs and all those cats! Thank you to Starfish Animal Rescue for lunch both weekends and hotel accommodations for the vet teams. Thank you to Barnyard Boutique for hosting. Lastly, so much gratitude goes to Banfield Foundation for supporting this community altering (literally) grant. It takes a village. The cost remains $15 cats, $20 dogs (including vaccines) as promised. We are hoping to post January dates soon. The grant is intended to impact the numbers of large dogs being ‘produced’ so we will continue to focus on dogs over 35 lbs. Feel free to email [email protected]. Must include
Your name
Each pet name
Each pet s*x
Estimated weight of each dog
County (KRRAS counties only, sorry)
Under 40k income
Cell phone
Currently only scheduling larger dogs once we get dates.

Hip to Snip was in the house this weekend. We spayed and neutered 29 big dogs (mostly female) and 47 cats. Thank you to Banfield Foundation for this generous grant for the counties that comprise KRRAS. We are so happy to help your community animals.
