As 2025 is just hours away, we want to say a big "Thank You" for your support in 2024. We are grateful that our community is beginning to understand the importance of an animal shelter and are donating funds to help us carry out our mission to make a positive impact on the stray and abandoned animal problem we have in our county. We have said before that this would not be possible without your support and that is the absolute truth. Each dollar you donate gets us a step closer to opening the doors! There are still a few hours left in 2024 to donate.

If any of your Calhoun friends were planning on purchasing vouchers/snip its they need to do so Monday or Tuesday at their courthouse before prices go up.

The prices are STILL very low

🚨 Important Update for Pet Owners 🚨

Starting January 2, 2025, the pricing for Snip-It-Tickets will increase.

The Calhoun County Commission, in collaboration with Alabama Spay Neuter, has proudly offered the Snip-It Ticket Program since January 2, 2019. Over the years, thousands of vouchers have been distributed to help residents access affordable spay/neuter services for their pets.

Here's what you need to know:

2025 Snip-It-Ticket Pricing:
🐾 Male Cat Neuter: $47
🐾 Female Cat Spay: $62
🐾 Male Dog Neuter: $62
🐾 Female Dog Spay: $77

Voucher Details:
Residents in unincorporated areas of Calhoun County are still eligible for $25 vouchers.

Certain municipalities contribute to the program, reducing the costs by $15 per voucher for residents. Participating municipalities include:
⚫️Town of Ohatchee
⚫️City of Jacksonville
⚫️City of Anniston
⚫️City of Oxford

Program Guidelines:
🐾 Residents can obtain up to 5 vouchers at a discounted rate. After using the first 5 vouchers, additional vouchers can be purchased at the standard rate.
🐾 Eligibility is limited to residents of Calhoun County.
🐾 Payments can be made via checks or money orders. Cards are also accepted, with a 3.5% fee.

How to Get Started:
📞 Call the Calhoun County Commission Office at (256) 241-2800 (option 6) to confirm the specific cost based on your location.
📍 Visit the office in person to purchase your vouchers.

If you purchase a Snip-It-Ticket before December 19, 2024, it will be honored at full 2025 value as long as the ticket hasn’t expired.

This program is a great way to support the health of your pets while also contributing to animal welfare in our community. Don’t miss this opportunity!

For questions or more information, contact Alabama Spay Neuter at (205) 956-0012 or visit their website at www.alspay.org.

Let’s continue working together to support animal welfare in our community! 🐶🐱

Good Morning to everyone EXCEPT
-the person who initially dumped the Mama for the crime of being female
-the person who dumped her pups in Vigo area of Cleburne Co & threatened to kill her (this area borders Piedmont)

Yesterday a few good samaritans picked up these pups from the woods. (We always suggest you post pics in our Lost & Found page and allow the rescuers & community to network.)

Well this urgent situation took off like a rocket as animal control was already contacted. For the post views & shares, we are grateful.

WHY IS SPAY & NEUTER SOOOOO IMPORTANT??? This is why. Look at the stats from this post after 18 hours.

People who have lived in other areas often ask why this process is not implemented here to raise animal welfare revenue. And why existing Alabama leash laws are not enforced.

To enforce leash laws, dog licensing is needed. To enforce licensing, there has to be a dog impound or "dog pound" that always has space to accept strays. The only way to always have space is to euthanize. 🚫🚫🚫

We will provide a SHELTER that focuses on animals 🐶 not an impound that focuses on removing animals from the streets.

How licensing works:
1. Pet owner purchases license/tag from local government and gives health info on animal such as required vaccinations, & spay/neuter status
2. The license fee is used to run the Animal Control department of the city or county government.
3. The animal control officer enforces leash laws by picking up any unrestrained animals and taking them to the impound. If they have a tag, the owner is contacted and fined.
4. If the animal has no tag, chip, or has slipped its collar, it goes on "stray hold" to give the owner a chance to claim.
5. Unclaimed animals are killed to make space for more strays next week.

Did you know Snoopy was a rescue? Story here: https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1EF7AH2CGj/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Update: Snoopy has been found ❤️

Missing: Snoopy! 🐾

Have you seen Snoopy? 🐶 Our beloved friend went missing after the parade. He was last seen bungee jumping from the parade float near the Health Department.

If you have any information about Snoopy's whereabouts, please contact the Chamber of Commerce immediately. Let's bring Snoopy home safely!

Today's the day!!! We are honored to be featured as the Grand Marshals of the Heflin Parade of Lights!

We hope this visibility brings more awareness to our community of the work that we are doing to bring animal welfare services to you! Dogs & cats don't have jobs so we are dependent on your donations to open!

We are currently asking to match our $5,000 kennell grant from RC & D. Please specify "kennels" if you want your donation applied to purchase those.

We have more work to do today still on our float, but we want to thank our volunteers!!!

In addition to our hard working board members and their families, we had student volunteers from Cleburne County Career Tech HOSA & FBLA, CCHS Ag, and CCHS Beta Club, the horses who loaned us their barn, the neighborhood dog who came to supervise, our behind the scenes donors for the trailer, the truck, the candy, the costumes, & the decorations.

Humane Education: HAY is for HORSES, STRAW is for STRAYS!
With winter finally making an appearance and temps dropping dramatically, we have been giving out community cat winter shelters to the public, as well as instructing how to build your own. One key element is the STRAW that is packed inside the Styrofoam for bedding and warmth. If you change out the bedding, it's VITAL to remember that you use STRAW and NOT hay!

Hay (and cloth/blankets) retains moisture, and can freeze an animal who is laying down in it overnight. It can also become moldy or cause an allergic reaction for some cats.

Straw repels moisture and traps in heat, so it keeps our furry friends safe and warm! Be careful when purchasing and read all labels, because straw and hay can look similar!

So remember: HAY is for HORSES, STRAW is for STRAYS!

Check the comments for a HOW TO on building community cat winter houses!
